I do not carry cash as a rule. Sometimes (e.g. when going out to a club or some such) I take out some cash and do not take my cards with me (if I get pickpocketed, it would be a bigger problem for me to lose my cards and have to get new ones than to lose a little bit of cash) but in general cash is too much of a hassle (plus you do not have a good control over what you spend it on).

Speaking of security, in Poland we have pretty much totally migrated to PIN code/chip cards these days - you get weird looks when you try to pay with a "signature" card (like my AmEx, which for some reason my firm decided to pick as their corporate card company, considering it is the only one of the three that does not have a chip these days).
