I am on the verge of hiring an interior decorator firm to help me finish/decorate my flat, and one flat I always liked was Brian's flat on the American version of Queer As Folk. The pictures of the flat (industrial loft style) can be found here:

Looks somewhat cool, but...not very homely.
Such a style in a games room or the like would be good but to sleep and relax in such a place? Nah.

Yeah, while I do appreciate a really cool looking loft, it would take some time getting used to sleeping in a place like that. One step up from a cot in a Red Cross shelter set up in the local high school gym. Get some dividers, for god's sake.
Jesus Fuck, no, it's hideous and dark. It looks like some combination of a an art studio from the early 90s and the living quarters of the Battlestar Galactica. What kind of homosexual are you? If you have that much money you can do a lot better.

Aren't lofts traditionally bright, airy places? Unlike that
Goth Chat one Marti has the link for?
Honestly, Marty, this is a terrible idea. Any guy you bring home is going to get one look bland chair covered in an even duller fabric (http://64.19.142.10/www.angelfire.com/home/qaf/images/loft_desk.JPG) and convinced that you are about as gay as a coked up Bill Clinton set loose on a Varsity Cheerleader team filled exclusively with slightly chunky 17-18 year olds.
I always thought that TV shows and movies loved lofts so much because it must be really easy to film on them. They don't seem so well suited for actually living on them. Just thinking of the heating bills would send Mono into a frenzy.
They've taken a massive, light and airy space and made it look dark and dingy. It also looks half-finished, like everything's under sheets until the decorator comes round. And you'd have to get rid of your cheetah-print fleece blanket.

Always annoyed me that, how such supposidely poor and struggling people on TV have such awesome places to live.

If the bed was in a separate area (built-in second floor, divided, or something), it would be pretty nice. Requires serious discipline to keep junk from getting everywhere though.
Too dark.
Too cluttered.
But that's just like, my opinion, man.

I kinda like it. Except for the chair with a sheet over it.
I would buy functional shit with random unobtrusive designs. I would not want a glass wall around my bedroom(or anywhere else for that matter).
What the hell, I'll give a serious answer.
The general "loft" look can be nice. Big hardwood floors, lots of exposed brick and support beams, open layout. That all is very nice.
All in all though it's rather over-done - which makes sense for a tv set.
And the bedroom is atrocious.
I don't think I could ever possibly justify to myself paying for a decorator. You know what you like - go out and get it. I'd always be afraid the designer is going to give me what they think looks good, rather than what I think looks good.
Of course if I ever got to design a house from scratch it'd probably end up looking like a hunting lodge. :Canuck:

Agreed. Except for the art work about the place its kind of nice. Not sure about bare bricks in the bedroom though, especially in Poland, kinda cold.
I notice a lack of storage space though...

Well, as I said, it's more about style than what goes where. I have two bedrooms and will have a large storage wardrobe in the hall, so there should be enough space for that.

When I went off to college my brother painted my walls black, which was odd since they were wood panel. I painted them white so I could see where the fuck I was going.
Here's the plan of the flat for reference:
TARAS means BALCONY
POKOJ means ROOM
POKOJ DZIENNY means LIVING ROOM
KUCHNIA means KITCHEN
LAZIENKA means BATHROOM
KORYTARZ means CORRIDOR/HALL
I am planning to knock down the wall between the kitchen and the living room and have an "island" style kitchen unit there. I could divide the living room in two (where the semi-wall is) with a tv stand, like in one of the pictures, too.

Nothing in it self. It's couple with the retarded kitchen that it comes an issue. The floor plan could be designed better to have more kitchen room instead of a 2nd bathroom.
Also, I think that in 1000 sq feet apartment 2 bathroom is a waste of time/space. There's 1 in mine & I really don't see the need of a 2nd one.

I agree; the spaces in your apartment, although rather big, are too small to fit with the kind of decoration you like.
Very important What's the ceiling height? And is the living room luminous enough? If you plan to decorate with bricks, but you don't have a large room with high ceilings and wide windows, you'll risk ending with a place that looks more a wine cellar than a loft.
L.
If you get into full wall-tearing mode, I'd also think about scrapping the separation with the corridor and that silly wall between the windows in the living room, in order to maximize the open space thingie.

I dunno, but square footage never includes the basement.
I find the idea that I'm living in "non-space" somewhat distressing.

That is why I am paying $6000 to an interior decorator - to make sure whatever I have in mind looks good in the space I have. ;)
You're paying somebody $6000 to tell you what curtains to buy? I'll do it for 3k. :shifty:
Already got several offers like that.
Anyway, their offer includes, once I accept the final 3d "visualisation" they prepare in consultation with me, a complete set of plans for everything, including hanging ceilings, lightning, custom made furniture etc. After that I technically just need a robot to do and fit it all.
How much is the robot?

Don't worry, you're not at risk.
