I went to a plurality-Asian UC in the recent past, and the answer is -- sort of. The heavy familial involvement part is true mostly of first generation immigrants; more assimilated ones find it embarrassing, as you can imagine. These are more common. I've seen people accompany their university graduate sons and daughters to job interviews, as if that is going to help their chances. This is rare, but it happens.

I know a Chinese who told me that the only point of working through university was to enjoy a grand graduation ceremony. She wanted the best flowers, all of her relatives, the best photos, etc. She was a very pretty girl, so I could kinda see that getting the best job was not the highest priority for her :D

What seems really odd to me is living outside of your parents' home and having them cook all your meals & do all your laundry. A friend of my brother's lived like that up until the time he got married in his late 20s & it just seemed creepy to me. He was a spoiled only child, not Asian.
