You can always tell it's the beginning of the new medical semester at Hopkins; the Mings bring three generations with them to campus, taking more photos than Disneyworld.  Used to get more lost visitor calls than any other time, with granduncle Chow getting separated from the brood and winding up in the barometric chamber basement.

That is indeed pretty typical Chinese behaviour

I know a Chinese who told me that the only point of working through university was to enjoy a grand graduation ceremony.  She wanted the best flowers, all of her relatives, the best photos, etc.  She was a very pretty girl, so I could kinda see that getting the best job was not the highest priority for her  :D

Yeah, I can excuse living with your parents till you get a job/married.  In fact, it makes perfect economic sense to do so.

It's good to have some time out of the nest before you get married so you can learn how to be independent, but yeah I sorta agree.

What seems really odd to me is living outside of your parents' home and having them cook all your meals & do all your laundry.  A friend of my brother's lived like that up until the time he got married in his late 20s & it just seemed creepy to me.  He was a spoiled only child, not Asian.

Yeah, that's sort of fucked up.

Personally, I couldn't have lived with my parents following graduation, but if you have a good relationship with them, then I don't see the problem... as long it doesn't become a rest-of-your-life kinda thing.

Do you want to buy, rent, lease, time-share or enter into some sort of socialist mutual support arrangement?

I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

I spelled "barometric" wrong in my post, and I eliminate ALL evidence of incorrect spelling.

  My mother gives me a ton of frozen premade dinners every couple weeks;  my father despises leftovers above all else, and she doesn't want to throw anything away.   Ergo, I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've stepped into a grocery store the last 6 years.

Mommy takes care of her boy.

As I have become decidedly more socialist over the last few years, a mutual support arrangement would work.  Like a collective farm of Asian ass, and I'm the Dongfeng of Love.

This is simply not practical in HK.  The average rent of a typical apartment easily exceeds the average pay of a university graduate.

Good man. I also loathe the thought of the same meal again within a week.

Me too. At work people are constantly bringing and heating last night's leftovers for lunch. I shudder at the thought. What I don't eat gets green-binned in my home.

I love leftovers. I hate the idea of perfectly delicious food being thrown away.
