So what's the deal with this one? Will it be good? Will people be getting it?
Played the demo. It's fun if you have a good group of friends to squad up with.
I'll probably get it. From reading about it they didn't consoletard the PC version like call of duty.
I have an Amazon pre-order in for the 360 version. It was ~$53 & comes with a $20 Amazon gift card.
I liked the first Bad Company more than I thought I would, despite the retarded things like AA guns being used as indirect-fire artillery. The storyline in this one is supposed to be a little more serious-- same characters but the humor will be more subtle.
Quote from: DisturbedPervert on February 25, 2010, 03:13:51 PM
Even in multiplayer?
No, that will have the exact same level of subtlety. I didn't play a whole lot of multiplayer with the first BC, but I liked it a bit better than CoD4 or MW2.
Just played a little MP. Seems reasonable, but I haven't played a BF game in a long time. I am rusty. 32 player max blows.
After MW2's 12 player max it will be awesome.
Do tell me however: can you filter for hardcore servers. I want to be a sniper and I can't with killcam.
Not directly in the filter menus as far as I can make out.

Steam can't release it before retail stores release the game for each given country. They're not allowed to undercut local box distributors. I guess Sweden gets retail first too.
I almost bought this at the store today, but I'm slightly below min specs.
I played a little bit of the single player campaign & will jump into some multiplayer this weekend. Seems pretty solid, but they need to tone down the "OMG everything is destructible!" gimmick a bit. Yes, it's cool that you can blow shit up and that a wooden wall is not permanent cover, but a 40mm grenade should not knock down an entire wall.
Btw, Toys R Us had a glitched deal that got you BFBC2 and Mass Effect 2 for the 360 for $60. They apparently corrected the glitch.
The game is fun. Some connection to servers problems though but nothing major so far. Once I get in I'm fine.
There is some problem with the unlocks of gadgets etc. Apparently I am not the only one experiencing it. I can unlock first aid kit and repair kit but I can't seem to equip them.
So Tampax, you playing yet or what?
Dont call me Tampax
I am at work, hence not playing.

This game is AWESOME! altough I want hardcore mode because emptying half a magazine into one's chest just to be defeated by him is not cool.
Also, teamwork should be better but I guess people need time to figure out the maps and weapons and such.

This morning, for the first time ever, I had no problem connecting to servers.
But punkbuster kept knocking me out. Automatic update did not work, pbsetup.exe update did not work, so I copied the files over manually, but since I have done that, the EA server keeps failing me.

I prefer to cherry pick those which work.
Ive found that the 'Play Now' thing that picks a server for you tend to land you on servers that dont kick you, at least for me.
Wake me when they've fixed the major problems.
Do they really claim that the number of copies sold has overwhelmed their servers? If so that is ridiculously lame, they know exactly how many copies they ship.
Had no problem with the server I connected to. My conclusion of the game there:
PLAY IN RUSH MODE!!!
omg what intense battles these were. Very cool.

I had a lol moment earlier: just 30 secs into a game I got stuck in a hole after blowing up an enemy tank with my explosives. So I had to sit it out in my little hole. Good thing I had a sniper rifle to keep busy.
Perfect sniper training is maps with no killcam. I found a very good one (hardcore, no killcam, friendly fire on) but it was empty tonight.

Just finished the single player campaign. The plot, while weird, isn't quite as bad as MW2. It helps that the game is not trying to be as 'serious' as MW2. I caught a couple swipes at MW2 in the banter between Sweetwater and Haggard. The storyline does seem to steal at least a couple things from MW2, though.
Not bad, overall. I enjoyed it, roughly about as much as MW2.
Played a bit of online multiplayer & found it a lot more n00b-friendly than MW2. Very similar to BF1943.

All of the classes are really well done, in my opinion. They all offer a big edge to the player, whether it is the endless n00b tube ammo of the assault, the engineer's mines and repair tool, the medic's firepower and defib, or the recon's sniping and motion mines. And the vehicles aren't overpowered either. It's fun even for people without twitchy reflexes. Blowing stuff up is also really fun.

Yeah, that mission is all about the big secret weapon that you'll hear more about later in the 'normal' part of the campaign. But I wouldn't worry much about it, either way, as the storyline is generally pretty silly. The individual missions are fun, though.
I'm liking this game more & more online. I've stuck mainly to the Assault class, and jump in any tank or IFV that I come across. I'm getting deadly with the noob tube, and am actually getting in some decent aimed shots with the XM8 rifle. My originally horrific kill ratio is starting to move a little closer to 1:1.
Only gripe so far is that on some maps, everyone on my side wants to be a sniper. So I'm one of the few slobs actually trying to take objectives.
Speaking of objectives, I really like that you can simply weaken a building so it collapses on those radio things you have to destroy. Bonus if there are enemies inside. Of course it's also sweet to set the detonator on one of those things, then jump back & cap everyone who runs up to try & disarm it.

It's always annoying when I join a random game for some quick action, and then I find out that I've joined the Sniper Squad, with three guys who don't really participate in the fight.
That said, a recon guy is a great asset to an assault squad. Toss a motion mine at an objective, and then have him sit back, take potshots and mortar strikes, and have him act as a spawn point near the action. And if you arm him with a shotgun, he's a really good in some of the more built up areas or guarding an indoor MCOM.
Do you still have to reselect your preferred weapons loadout at the beginning of every session or did they patch this?

It seems like these helpful recon types are usually on the other team. In my squad, they usually sit way back in a gaggle, and rack up less than 5 kills between them.
Anywho, I'm derspiess42 if anyone on Xbox wants to squad up.
Sorry grey fox, had to drop. I will be playing again this weekend.
I had something of a berserker run on that night-time snow map where I flanked the enemy's defensive line and killed about eight of them in a row with my SMG before they took me down.
I either play a recon or an engineer.
As a recon I do try to be the helpful recon squad member Neil outlined, sometimes I manage but of course I need to be in a squad which actually want to take objectives. It's rare but every once in a while it works out and then it is quite nice, as I scan for and report nearby contacts and try to clear the way for them, then help in keeping the enemy far from the bombed objective. But when I am not in a squad like that, I often spend time working on my aim. Too bad you cant setup a game against bots for that.
I guess the engineer is quite the opposite of the recon, because of the shit guns they get and the need to shoot at armor from the side or back have you crawling around at close range all the time. And of course it is beautiful when I manage to find a good teammate for some vehicular action. I dont even mind being just the gunner because I do have to drop out for repairs every now and then anyways. Sometimes, you can rack up a lot of points like that.

I found a sweet spot on that map as a defender. It's an area just in front of one of the last buildings you defend, and behind a big storage/shipping container. You have an excellent overlook of what seems to be the favored attack route, and the attackers rarely seem to notice you.

The second AK you get in the Assault class is pretty sweet, with either the red dot sight or 4x scope. Accurate, stable, and pretty decent damage. It has a slower rate of fire than some of the other Assault weapons, but that's actually a good thing when firing at long range, since the game doesn't let you select-fire to semi-auto.
So far, my favorite weapon is probably still the XM8.
Jaron: if you ever decide to play the game, look for me.
Just had an epic battle in Rush mode with Strix sniping with my squad and me spamming medkits for the assault guys. You can rack up massive pointage as a Medic by just looking for the big firefights and dropping medkits for your buddies. The Red-Dot sight T88 LMG helps a lot too.
Combining the machine-gunner and medic in one class is almost too powerful. I can just sit tight close to the fight, lay down a base of fire, drop a medkit for the guys on the line, run up and revive them if they die, and as long as I stay alive they can just respawn on me. Easy points.

Medic is a point monster, to be sure. Myself, I prefer assault. Dropping ammo kits for snipers and engineers is a solid point-getter and makes both classes much more effective, allowing them to spam mines and rockets. Plus, an ammo kit provides for unlimited n00b-tubing, which can be used to demolish M-COM stations and the forces of evil.
I've only played a decent amount with the Engineer and Medic classes. I picked up an Assault kit in my last game with an M416 and had some luck with it.
Recon class intrigues me, but only if I can get a decent non-sniper rifle weapon. I hate sniping.

I love the M416. With a 4x scope, it's probably the most versatile gun I've got, although I haven't unlocked the M-16 yet.
Recon is good with the right guy. Motion mines are a defenders best friend. You don't even really need to snipe, if you don't want to.
How do you drop medkits, or repair tanks if you are an engineer? I could not find a hotkey for either.

Buy a console.
3 or 4 on the keyboard, or scroll the mouse wheel.
Unless you haven't unlocked them yet.
SO, to use a medkit, as a medic, you have to unlock it?
Well, of course - that sure makes sense.
Yeah I thought it was ridiculous too. Fortunately, it's not too hard to hit those first few levels.

The Defib paddles are a great melee weapon. ZAPPP....dead
On the forest maps where there is no long enough line of sight, I use one of the faster rate of fire recon weapons with the 4x zoom scope, instead of sniping.

I don't think I've ever used the full auto sniper rifle. I used the M24 until I unlocked the Gol, and now I'm close to unlocking the Barrett.
Full Auto sniper sucks, not enough dmg to one hit kill.

Also helps a lot to be in a good squad that fights together and consists of at least 1 assault (can distribute ammo) and 1 medic (can distribute med kits and revive). Recon is helpful as well to the squad on defense, since they can throw sensors out in front to detect enemy movement. And an engineer is vital for any fighting vehicle.
Speaking of reviving, I want to knife those morons who keep reviving me when I'm in a dangerous field of fire. I got shot by the same damned sniper three times within 15 seconds the other day because I kept getting revived.
Simply leveling up seems to help as well, and you don't have to just get kills to accumulate points. In some of my best rounds, I got just a handful of kills.
The graphics aren't as good as MW2 unfortunately. But I do love flying an Apache around now. Unlocked the Medic completely, g3 sucks if anyone is thinking about leveling up to it. Stay with the M60, big waste of time.

Yeah. You can totally dominate that map with the suspension bridge if you're an engineer with AT mines and you have an assault guy to reload you. I got over a dozen vehicle kills last night with a combination of AT mines, TOW missiles, tank shells and one excellent shot with an RPG.
RPG's fly waaaaaaay too straight in this game, it's lame. It's like firing a gun. I hit the Russian up-armored truck on the map with the cargo ships in the middle from about 400m away, straight shot. One hit kill from the rear..... <_<

It usually takes multiple shots with the RPG to kill something, though. Same with the AT4 or that modified guided antitank rocket you can work your way up to. There are some vehicles that *should* blow up with one decent hit.
Agree that they are too accurate, but the same goes for a lot of weapons.
One thing that is bugging me about the game is that you need to enable a "special ability" to use the coax/alt. weapon and to use "advanced optics" (which are really standard), but you can't use them at the same time.
One of my favorite things in the game is to shoot down a UAV with a pistol. Only thing better than that is sneaking up & knifing the guy controlling the UAV.

I've killed Humvees with single RPG shots, and helicopters are one shot kills. Maybe you're missing the target?
The tanks and APCs take a couple though.
I've certainly gotten a lot better. My KD is around 1, and 1.5 is not unusual anymore.
Still mostly playing as the medic.
Had one great match where I went around the base we were attacking, came in from the back and got 9 kills, and pretty much wiped out the defenses single handed. Shooting people in the back sure is a lot easier.
The medic is ridicously overpowered

Hmm, maybe I just have the BMD-3 stuck in my head. That thing usually takes 2 shots to kill (sometimes maybe more), when one shot in the rear should kill it.
Why should 1 shot kill it?
In a world where one burst from a LMG won't kill a person, seems a bit silly to insist a AFV should be taken out by one shot from an RPG.
You guys need to play Hardcore.

My cumulative is stuck around .92, but since I focus (or obsess) on taking/holding objectives & winning the map, I end up dying a lot. I am: sniper bait.
I unlocked all the Assault class stuff, and I'm working on Engineer. I've dabbled a bit in Medic, but it's a big adjustment going back to iron sights, particularly on that horrible PKM.

As the guy toting around the LMG, it is not at all unusual not to kill someone with a quick burst.
Hell, sometimes I get the drop on them, start shooting them, and they still manage to kill me first.
I dont like non-hardcore servers. Annoying.

My K:D is around 1.87 iirc, 1.58 in MW2. :showoff:
Yeah the RPG is a 2-3 shot kill normally depending where you hit the tank. Trucks are one hit kills for me generally, but I also use the special explosives perk.
I LOVE the Apache by the way. Use it with the engineer, fly around kill stuff, start getting low on health go park it in the desert rep it quick and up and going again. Good stuff. Even take objectives now by hovering right above it.

Not really.
I finally reached: Level 22. I got all the Assault, Engineer, and Vehicle upgrades a few days ago, and am slowly working on Medic and Recon, depending on the situation.
A few things I've noticed:
-at least on the 360, Assault seems to be the least popular class. Lots of Medics & Recon. I still put my time in as Assault and try to be thoughtful about dropping supplies, but it's a major pain in the ass to be an Engineer and have nobody to resupply you once you've run out of mines/AT rockets.
--Speaking of mines, dropping even just a few at certain vehicle choke points can discourage the enemy from using vehicles for the rest of the map.
-The magical mortar binoculars are fun.
-Shooting a guy in the face at the last moment as he tries to knife you-- also fun.
-Advanced optics is the best upgrade for most vehicles. For tanks you can sit way back and pick off enemy tanks, TOW gunners, snipers, etc. or you can use the powerful main gun to demolish buildings/blow up objectives. Let your MG gunner deal with infantry that get close, or switch to that position if you're alone. I use this with the Bradley (helps knock out TOW gunners before they see you), and started using it with the UAV (you lose your MG but can fly to maximum height and still pinpoint targets for the air to ground missiles).
Also, what is the point of having red dot or 4x scopes for the Recon class? Isn't that taking a big step backwards from the optics the sniper rifles already have?
Playing this game as made me realise, I seriously need to upgrade.
I finnally moved out of the first Assault gun. Also played a little non-hardcore, much easier to aim the Noobtube that way.
I prefer alternate weapons, I like using the MG on the tank.
I wish you could use an optic with the m14 which is what I use with the Engineer class.
Quote from: Alcibiades on April 12, 2010, 01:36:40 PM

That's what I went with up until a couple days ago. The coax MG is nice to have, but generally if you are in easy MG range, you're also in easy AT missile range. I've found that I die a lot less often in a tank or APC by using the optics & taking advantage of the range (a little concealment helps as well). If I have a decent MG gunner, he takes care of most of the soft targets. If I don't have an MG gunner, it's pretty easy to switch back & forth between the main gun and the MG position.
A few things that really annoy me about vehicles, though:
-Idiot crewmembers who fire their weapons as you're moving to the front, alerting the enemy that there's a heavy vehicle heading their way. Yeah, I know it's fun to shoot at trees, but save it for the enemy.
-People who jump in my tank & decide to take over as driver while I'm making repairs.
-You have to elevate tank guns way too high when firing at long ranges. I'm pretty sure the 120mm round follows a pretty flat trajectory at most ranges in the game. It's not a friggin' howitzer. Once you adjust to it, it's not too bad, but you feel less like you're in a tank & more like you're in a mobile artillery piece.

You can't?
Engineer + M14 + x4 optics = a pretty good all-around fighter on maps with some vehicles, provided you have an assault guy handy to reload your rockets/mines.
I've noticed more and more snipersquads lately. I just got my fifty-cal a while back, and I've been enjoying it, but it's frustrating being the only guy in the squad trying to take an objective.
I'm level 21? 22? It doesn't give me an option for an optic... :hmm:

I get a kick out of flying the little drone thing, but it never lasts long - too easy to shoot down, or someone comes up and knifes you.
Last night, for some reason, nobody did either of those things. In an epic session that probably lasted at least 15 minutes, I destroyed 4 AFVs, 2 helicopters, and probably 6 different guys on the ground before we won the match.
They just kind of ignored me up there, and I just sat there killing things. The helicopters were especially fun.
The couple sessions we had you me & Strix were pretty fun.
We had Strix? I saw that you had said hello, but I didn't know what the key was for chat - it apparently is NOT tab...
Running that guy over with the ATV was pretty fun.
Orpheus is Strix(I think).
Chat keys are, for some reason, by default :
J for ALL Chat,
K for Team Chat,
L for Squad Chat,
I am easy to spot!
If I am Recon I will have a ton of kills....if I am Medic I will have a ton of points...if I am Assault I will be the guy blowing himself up a lot. :lmfao:

When I have a good run with the UAV, I almost feel guilty sitting up there killing stuff with impunity :D
Best way to keep from getting shot down is to climb to maximum altitude immediately, and position yourself behind the enemy, so that they are facing away from you. If you have the alt. weapon , you can drop down & use the minigun, but as I mentioned I suggest using advanced optics, allowing you to zoom in from the max. altitude & knock off individual targets with the missile. At that altitude, you are a speck, and it takes a decent or really determined sniper to take you down. But a lot of the time, you're left alone. Of course, as you've noticed, someone could always sneak through your lines & knife you.
I will play again this weekend and kill you all. :menace:

Yeah, I remember your handiwork as a sapper in Red Orchestra. I think maybe you got 1 enemy for every 2 or 3 TKs :D
Am I missing something, or is there really no way to save a default setup?
When you select "quick match" for online play, does it use your skill level to decide what type of opponents you face? 'Cuz I had a few really good games where I played a bit above my actual abilities. Then the next night for every game I played, I was practically the lowest rank-wise (lots of guys with stars next to their names), and was getting pwned left & right. Didn't pay close attention to my skill level, but I got back in last night & kept getting matched up with low-rank inexperienced players.
One thing I really noticed when I was getting pwned by those high-skill dudes was they really seemed organized. I play mainly Rush matches, and when these guys attacked, everything they did seemed practiced and well-coordinated. I'm sure they were communicating with each other via headset (something I wish was more common-- it devalues the squad concept if you can't communicate), and they had some interesting tactics. For example, they would fill up a helicopter & actually use it for transport to rush an objective. Another tactic was to have two guys from different squads drive a fast vehicle into some trees behind an objective, and have the rest of their respective squads spawn on them, then proceed to overwhelm the 2 guys on my team trying to hold the objective.
And the most interesting-- I watched a sniper on my team load up his UH60 with C4 and then crash it into the objective, doing enough damage to destroy it. He died but got the 100 points for destroying the objective plus 3x or 4x50 for damage to the objective.
I still get a kick out of collapsing a building onto an objective (as well as any enemy that might be inside) myself, preferably at long range with a T-90 :)
I don't think there is such a thing as quick match on the PC Version. Altho, I see server with rules prohibiting the "destroying objectives" tactics all the time.

As in the kamikaze Recon dude I mentioned, or destroying in general? I would hope they wouldn't have problems with using ranged weapons to destroy objectives, since it is time-consuming & is an intended game feature.

Some servers they like to base rape. If you destroy the objective with explosives it makes it harder for them to rape you.

Not sure everything that got fixed but they did update it so that you no longer have to keep fixing your "setup" every time you join a server. They also have fixed a lot of the server selection criteria so it works for a change.
