1. This side of the Truth
2. State of Play
3. Inglorious Bastards
4. Nine
5. Brothers
6. Shutter Island
7. The Lovely Bones
8. The Road
9. Watchman
10. Avatar
'The Informant' was originally on this list at number 5, but after seeing "Brothers", I truly believe this film should replace it. Any thoughts, or suggested changes that need to be made?
You spelled number 3 wrong.
...and number 9. Also, how does something go from #5 on a list of 10 to unranked by adding one movie?
Shutter Island isn't being released till Feb :nerd:
I thought you were going to show us pictures of your allegedly "huge" tits, tia? Do that and I'll go click on some link related to that stupid movie 300 times for you.
Natalie Portman can't act. There. I said it. She's dull and lifeless and nearly every part she plays is completely transparent and vacuous. She's had like two movies she was any good in, and that's probably because the role she was playing is closer to the comfort zone of her real personality. It's like any time she has to play a character not herself she goes dead.
All I've ever seen her in is the Star Wars movies and clips from that one movie where she's a stripper, but FWIW I agree.
She was playing a kabuki stuffed doll in Star Wars, that's hardly fair.
Which two are you thinking of MIM? I thought she was amazing in both The Professional and Beautiful Girls. Best child actress ever.

If she writes Languish on her tits and posts it, I'll go see Brothers and post the ticket stub

Yeah, that's why I added the FWIW caveat.

Yep those. I heard Heat was all right too, but I haven't seen it. It's the little girl roles.

He's got that Last Airbender flick coming out next year iirc. and I think is starting a new flick after the new year.

That movie is going to suck and ruin any chances of a future season based in the Avatar universe. :weep:

Why oh why do people keep funding his projects?
I know that most of them have been at least mildly profitable (except maybe the last one), and some have been huge successes, but there is a noticable downward trend, and the reviews keep getting more and more scathing.
I would fund a Shyamalan project if he was directing, perhaps, but definitely not where he's the writer as well.
Nonsense. Where's Julie & Julia?
Moon
Red Cliff belongs on any red blooded languishite's list for 2009.

I quite liked The Village in spite of the bad reviews. Also the trend is up, though perhaps just a dead cat bounce, as The Happening wasn't nearly as bad as Lady in the Water.
By my count of the ones I've seen he's had 3 good ones, 2 meh, and one godawful.
The village has an interesting premise, but it goes downhill from there. Kind of the opposite of Signs, which had an absurd premise, but (IMO) had good acting and somewhat compelling characters, aside from Shyamalan's ridiculous cameo.
The Village would have made a good short story or Twilight Zone episode. The plot twist wasn't enough to sustain a feature film.
Watchmen and Zombieland are tied for 1st, the other 8 slots in my list stay empty.

Is Zombieland good? I'm debating whether to see it.

I don't know Cal, but in a world where Uwe Boll keeps getting financed, anything is possible.

I figured she was only horrible in the Star Wars movies because of the inept direction that turned even Liam Neeson into a bad actor. After seeing her in a few more things I think you are right.

It's some kind of German tax loophole, to encourage the German film industry. People can write off all their investment, then write off the loss. Something like that.
1. District 9
2. Coraline
3. 9
4. Ponyo
I saw enough films in 2009 to fill out the list, but they'd just be filler. Forgettable stuff, but District 9 was gold. Wikus is my bishi, etc.

I feel your pain when trying to use iphone to surf languish :D
As to thread subject there are still a long list of films that i think would make up top 10 ( An Education, A Serious Man, Invictus and Where the wild Things are to name a few)
but current list would include:
Zombieland
Hurt Locker
Drag Me To Hell
Also heard good things about Tarantino's Basterds, Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox and (500) Days of Summer.
my list will only include films I've actually seen, but there are a bunch, like Hurt Locker, that I've missed, that I imagine I would have liked a lot.
my list would include two token Canuck entries as well "It's Not Me I swear" - a PQ film about being a kid in the early 70's Free range FTW! and "Victoria Day" - a nice little (heavily "Sundance influenced") Indie pic about a HS hockey player and the very weird and kinda stressful week he has leading up to Victoria Day in 1988.
Hollywood - Star Trek, Drag Me To Hell.
still mulling the rest of the list. tough year as for me a lot of what I saw was good, but not great
Concur with "Drag Me To Hell". Didn't catch as many films as I wanted to this year, though I did see some great repertoire screenings of old ones. Where are the Habsys???
Was "Waltz With Bashir" in 2009? That's on my list. "I've Loved You So Long" was good but I can't remember if it was 08 or 09.
I'm turned off of Invictus by Morgan Freeman's and Matt Damon's crappy accents.
