Bombers-Ti Cats on now. Bombers win and they host the Eastern semi. Bombers lose and they're out.

59 yard INT for a TD. :yeah:
Bombers up 14-7.
We do actually have a CFL thread out there, though it hasn't been used in a couple months.

Fuck. Two singles.
16-14.
17-16 Ti-Cats.
This is a nailbiter.
I am actually semi-impressed with Josh Freeman, the Bucs' rookie QB making his first start against Green Bay. Of course, fate required that he would make his first start in the cursed cream-orange uniforms, but he's had a decent game so far.

Uh oh - better watch out for Katmai - apparently talking about the wrong kind of football in a thread is verbotten.
If i want to hear about boring ass football for players who can't make it in NFl i'll open this thread, for the bonafide NFL I'll read the other thread without having to hear about Bleu Bomber and Roughriders (how ghey can you get?)

Hell, what kind of a nick is "Teddy"?
Speak softly and carry a big stick, indeed. ;)
Well this game looks to be over. 28-16, 6 minutes left in the 4th.
I think big Blue has one 1st down in the entire 2nd half.
Before this season I had not appreciated how much it sucks that 6 out of 8 teams make the playoffs. The fact that the Lions can still make the playoffs is a complete joke.

Meh. Even if they manage to beat Hamilton, it's not as if they're going to beat Montreal.

But if the GTA gets a football team, Toronto will want one too.

Nah - Toronto doesn't care about the Argos as is. The CFL would be a lot more successful putting teams in secondary markets. CFL in Toronto (and BC and Montreal) suffer from being seen as 2nd tier sports. But put a team in, I dunno, London or Oshawa or wherever and they'd own that local market.
I don't know about BC but the Als arent 2nd tier. Their stadium is going to be bigger then the Bell Centre next year & it's full at every game.
My Haitian taxi driver in Montreal spoke very enthusiastically about the Allouettes.

Indeed. Being about twice as good as any other team in the league definitely helps build a fanbase.
It's semi-final Sunday.
My picks are:
BC and Calgary

I think the CFL should do two tier levels at least, go to smaller markets, have an " A "League and a "B" League or simply east and west. If you don't have NFL sized expectations, you could build in more markets. Canadian football is exciting, imo, and they should go the route of lower level teams, but wiith more penetration. It's already reasonably priced, make it moreso, and in more places. Halifax, Victoria, Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto could support "B" Teams easily.
This would take a lot of will though. I don't know that the powers that be would go for that approach. I'd love it if there were at least 1 CFL team in every feasible Province or Territory.

Why add 'and territory'? There is no territory that is feasible for a CFL team. Ignoring the fact that the inhabitants of the territories spend their entire disposable incomes on alcohol and anything you can get high on by huffing, the weather turns cold in a hurry up there. Playing in November or October wouldn't be that great, and there's no way that Whitehorse or Yellowknife could build a dome.

But more seriously, you want places where you can pull 15-20,000 fans per game. Simple mathematics rules out the territories.
3rd and goal on the 3 yard line, down by 10 - go for it you fools!
Holy shit - overtime! :o

But then promptly blow it in OT.
Grats Lions.
And nice game between Edmonton and Calgary.

I suspected as much but wanted to be as inclusive as possible in my fantasy scenario. Wherever there is the interest to have it and at a level comparable to what there is now.

Funny thing is my son and I taped it because he was playing football at the same time. We came back and watched it but the recording ran out right after the Cats kicked the field goal with over a minute to go. We didnt worry about it too much because we thought the Lions had won the game. I would have liked to see the overtime.
I blame the two play stoppages caused by Hamilton fans running onto the field.
4 hours to Grey Cup. :)

Go Als go.
In about an hour. :Canuck:

I'll be in the cold, cold ground before I cheer for those inbred hicks from Regina.
What a finish. :woot: :yeah:
3 minute warning or so, Montreal down by 8. They score a TD, and get jobbed on a pass interference call when going for two.
Riders don't get a 1st down, but run down the clock as far as they can. Get it down to about 40 secs before the Als get it back aroung the 50, 55 yard line.
They manage a couple of first downs and get within field goal range with zero time on the clock (they're still allowed to get the last play off). The Als kick, and it's a miss!
But wait - flag!
Sask gets called for 13 men on the field! :o
And on the replay, the fieldgoal goes in, and the Als win the Grey Cup.
Congrats to Montreal, who never led in the game (and were down by 14 at the half), and only took the lead on the last play of the game.
And, the Riders don't win.

And it was one of the most interesting games I've seen all year. Maybe the first Vikings-Packers game would compare, but since playoffs>regular season, I'd have to go with this game.

Meh - karma's a bitch.
When the Als were down by 8, scored a TD, then went for 2, the Riders totally jammed the receiver off the line illegally, which prevented the two.
Besides, it's the Riders. They're the Steelers of Canada (but with less success) - bandwagonning fans all across the country. :x
Yeah, I know absolutely nothing about the CFL, other than Doug Flutie and Marcus Allen's brother being the two best QBs ever. In that vacuum I felt bad for those guys running around celebrating, only to find out they lost a minute later.

Damon Allen - he wasn't bad.
But best ever QBs? You have to include such luminaries as Warren Moon, Matt Dunnigan, Dieter Brock, Ron Lancaster, Anthony Calvillo... and that's just off the top of my head - I'm sure I'm forgetting some great players.
Oh - don't forget Darren Flutie either, one of the best WRs of all time, and Doug's brother.
Besides - the 'Riders fans deserve to suffer. And the fact that my favourite team, the Blue Bombers, is the archrival of the Riders has nothing to do with me saying so.
I watched it, awesome game in the end. I had to go to Victoria to watch the game though... before the weekend had started there were way too many Rider fans in Cowtown to tolerate staying in the city for the Grey Cup. While waiting in the airport out from Calgary two Westjet birds poured green shirted losers marching cheerily in to have their hopes and dreams dashed. Crying into their watermelons now I guess.
In that video you linked to it's hilarious at the 1:10 mark the play by play guys says "Penalty markers down... all over the field!" and then you see a beer can crash onto the field in the top left corner.
Damon Allen was a pretty good quarterback... his later years with the Lions he had some good teams with him.

They are much worse they are the Raiders with success.
Duval missed his 1st game winning field goal on purpose apparently. Montreal's coaching staff apparently saw the 13th Riders players & was in an hurry to have him kick.
OUCH!
I was following the game, we had a lead, I went up to do something else...when I came back, we had lost on the very last play.
good game. anything can happen in the CFL.
That was one of the most boring Grey Cup games I have seen. The only reason Saskatchewan was even in that game is because the Als forgot how to pass and catch in the first half.
Until the fourth quarter it looked more like an early season game then the championship game. However, at least the Grey Cup delivered another close game in the end.
watched most of the game. while playing Civ. reasonably entertaining. But I had no investement in either team winning. I don't know who to cheer for in CFL these days.
Boring game for the most part. But man, aren't the Alouettes lucky?? And Duval is the luckiest player around for sure.
Biggest TV show of the year, most watched Grey Cup ever. and yes, it outdrew the Superbowl.
Quotet was a Grey Cup classic and now it's a Grey Cup record. More Canadians watched the Grey Cup last night on TSN and RDS than ever before. Preliminary overnight data from BBM Canada confirms that 6.1 million viewers watched last night's thrilling CFL championship game - making it the most-watched Grey Cup ever* as well as the most-watched telecast of the year in Canada**.
More than 14 million Canadians, or nearly 43% of the country's population, watched the game in whole or in part. An incredible 8.35 million viewers were watching the broadcast at 9:49 p.m. ET on TSN and RDS as Montreal kicker Damon Duval converted his second game-winning field-goal attempt as timed expired.
The combined TSN and RDS audience for 2009 Grey Cup surpasses the previous combined Grey Cup audience high of 5.2 million set in 2002 by 16%.
TSN's Grey Cup audience of 5.087 million becomes the highest audience ever recorded for the network, surpassing the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship Gold Medal game that attracted 3.7 million viewers on TSN earlier this year. RDS' French broadcast attracted over one million viewers. The broadcast on RDS surpassed all conventional television audiences on a competitive Sunday night in the French market.
The Grey Cup on TSN becomes the most-watched telecast on Canadian television this year - ahead of both The 81st Annual Academy Awards and Super Bowl XLIII**.
