I don't know, I don't know if Al Franken suggested that people should avoid flu shots because the government might be puting microchips in there to track you. Glenn Beck is one of those rare people who deserves to die in a fire. For one thing, He's a Randian (though apparently a half-assed one since he's also an observant mormon). Also he was a Catholic and spurn mother church for the Mormon heresy.

Beck said that?
Also, I couldn't think of anyone else other then Franken to compare Beck to, but I should clarify that I think Al is awesome, or at least he seemed to be so when I met him at a book signing in the mid 90s.

I'd be surprised if Beck said anything like that, not that I'm going to try and defend him much one way or another. But I watch his show sometimes, depends what he's talking about. He does do some substantive shows - had a bunch of doctors on both sides of the health care issue, and does that kind of thing sometimes. He tends to very vocal but not crazy headed, and tries to back up what he says with info, video, stats and guests.

No, I'm not. This is not even my favorite, but it gets points for being anti-Glenn Beck. I'm actually fairly mellow (even quiet) in real life most of the time. That's probably a big reason I come here.
You are way off comparing Al Franken to Beck, Caliga. Beck has no real equivalent in the modern Left, but I'd have to compare him to the Yippies back in the day or something to find something reasonably close. He's out there. Far, far out there.

The expression on his face makes me want to punch him. Which I guess is the desired effect.
One of the reasons I don't take Beck seriously is because, when I first heard about him, I did a bit of research to try to figure out what qualified him to be a political commentator. You may not be surprised to learn that there are no qualifications. He couldn't even manage to get a college degree, for Crissakes.

Neither did Hitler and apparently they dress the same!
I think it's interesting that so many demagogues like Beck, and yeah Hitler, etc. have no qualifications of any sort, and yet still appeal to so many. In fact, I sometimes wonder if that makes them even more appealing. "Glenn Beck don't got no college degree and he's smrt just like me!"

Sometimes I think that people (including myself) who get outraged or annoyed or even interested in the shock personalities like Beck or Moore or Coulter or whoever are the real losers.
Beck, no matter what you think about his politics, is a huge success at what he does. He makes millions, I am sure, and is right where he wants to be. Is he for real though? Does he really think the things he says, to the extreme that he says them...or is it all just a farce, a little act that he is taking to the bank, and laughing his ass off at the people all pissed off at his viewpoints?

They are successful as drug lords are successful - they pander to people's cravings, needs and desires, and couldn't care less if this is harmful to them. Are drug lords evil or just good at meeting the demand? Answer yourself that question and you will have an answer to yours.

Years ago I watched this movie where these jerkass college students were poisoning people that they thought were bad and burying them in their garden, and they were planning on killing this Glenn Beck-type guy played by Ron Perlman. He turned out to be a big faker who was rather clever and intelligent, and then he killed them all.

Wow. I never knew FOX News hired talent with such great family values.
Quote from: Salon
The animosity between Beck and Kelly continued to deepen. When Beck and Hattrick produced a local version of Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" for Halloween -- a recurring motif in Beck's life and career -- Kelly told a local reporter that the bit was a stupid rip-off of a syndicated gag. The slight outraged Beck, who got his revenge with what may rank as one of the cruelest bits in the history of morning radio. "A couple days after Kelly's wife, Terry, had a miscarriage, Beck called her live on the air and says, 'We hear you had a miscarriage,' " remembers Brad Miller, a former Y95 DJ and Clear Channel programmer. "When Terry said, 'Yes,' Beck proceeded to joke about how Bruce [Kelly] apparently can't do anything right -- about he can't even have a baby."
