The "are you a gamer" poll got me thinking.
The year is 2019.
What is Languish like?
Are we still here? Are YOU still here?
Forum technology has only received cosmetic upgrades the last decade, but look 20 years back and people Languished on BBS and mailinglists.
For my part, I think I will probably be around as long as Languish is alive (or I upset someone's delicate sensibilities enough to be sitebanned, or I die in a flaming wreck of metal, plastic and rubber), since it fills a useful function in my life.
It's hard to imagine any change to the way we interact as big as the move from dialup servers to internet forums.
The other day I was just thinking about how long I've been in the Languish/Paradox community. I think I joined P-Dox in the summer of 2001. I've been on different message boards over the years, but never for as long as 8 years. I know Languish is different from Paradox, but nearly everyone here used to be members there.
I'll be here.
I'll be in Afghanistan.
If the board is still around and I haven't become a bestselling author millionaire ... yeah, I'll be around.
I've been around since 2001 or so, and so have most of you tards. That's a long time, so if things were going to go to hell in a handbasket, collapse, explode or disperse, it would have happened by now. As long as somebody is willing to keep the domain and server up, we'll still be around in some form or other that's remarkably similar to this.
I'm not going anywhere.
ATM I'm not optimistic about languish long-term survival. It's getting stale lately.
I think it might be dieing

Bored. The damn war is pretty much over, not counting the occasional bombing.
We are suppossed to go out in missions with the iraqi security forces, in support role, but they don't want us to go with them because it makes them look bad in the eyes of the local populace.
We still go out every day, but is just travelling from base to base. No more raids for us. At least not here in Baghdad.

You guys need to be more like the Euros. DO that and peacekeeping will last another 30-40 years of conflict and violence.
What are you talking about?
Probably it will be on some archive on the Internet. In 10 years I'll be 38.
It will be totally awesome is what it will be.
I think (hope) the core group will stay until they start dying out literally. The function Languish has for them (me) will only get harder to be replaced by anything else, as time goes by.
My inertia is strong.
Here's hoping that, 10 years from now, i'll be part of languish's establishment rather than looking in from the outside.
I'll still be here but I'll probably be making ass jokes all day instead of boob jokes. Gotta change it up a little sometimes.
Hopefully, well away from this place.

I'd miss Seedy's abuse of people. :)
Barrister, your talk about racism sounds real convincing in the great white north. I interact more, and more naturally, with more blacks on a daily basis than you im sure, even adjusting for the fact that you deal with criminals.
And anyway, you think me much more racist than I am. I believe in keeping the races apart in vibrant and mutually supportive communities, yes, but I am hardly some supremacist, nor is a belief in the distinctive and seperate merit of every race a cornerstone of my beliefs, as you seem to feel. It's pretty annoying.

Can't tell. I've heard about it, like I have also heard that arabs fear handguns more than assault rifles.
I have never asked one, really. All this sounds pretty stupid to me (as in tactically ineffective), but it could be true, since backward people always place a high value on valor and bravery, and using a blade in combat is suppossed to be brave.

Yeah, because you hear constantly about murders, terrorist attacks and bombs exploding in Kosovo, Macedonia and Bosnia, right? And Lebanon... man, since European troops came to Lebanon it has been just a round of killings after another! And let's no mention Chad, Congo or Ivory Coast... actually, wherever French troops go in their old colonial empire, conflict is sure to get eternal!
