Texans - 9ers this week.   The last time they played, it was "for Reggie Bush."  They're both better now. ^_^

Edit:  Oh it's in Houston.  I thought they were playing in SF for some reason.

Fisher needs to put on a jersey and play defensive back, because even with his age and his crippling, he's probably better than most of the guys the Titans have been playing in the defensive backfield.

Cushing is the AFC defensive player of the week.  9 tackles, 2 FF, 1 INT.

Bears-Bungles prediction: Bungles tight ends will drop the ball repeatedly, causing Carson Palmer to snap and murder one at halftime.

I will cheer that.

ESPN Page 2 had a funny little thing about how sportswriters should take a mulligan for bashing the Texans for taking good Mario Williams instead of shitty Reggie Bush.

Also, Adalius Thomas deserves all the bad things that are happening to him right now.

LOL.  Mike Pereira is about to go on the NFL Network and explain why the measurement where the refs gave the Steelers a first down when they were several inches short.  Somehow, I doubt it'll be the real answer, which relates to online jersey sales.

Heh heh yeah I just saw that actually.  I also liked the one for Robin Ventura.

QuoteJust when it couldn't get any worse for the woeful Cleveland Browns, it got worse.

The team has been hit by the flu.

On Wednesday, 12 players, including Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers and five other starters, missed practice with flulike symptoms as the team began installing the game plan for Sunday's matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Coach Eric Mangini scaled back the workout in hopes of keeping his healthy players from getting sick. He's also emphasizing preventive measures to stop the virus from spreading further. If players are showing any symptoms, the Browns are sending them home.

As the Browns were practicing, a large box containing white pharmacy bags containing Tamiflu, a prescribed medicine to treat and prevent flu, was delivered to the team's headquarters.

The Browns' sick players are: Rogers, running back Jerome Harrison, center Alex Mack, cornerback Anthony Madison, safety Brodney Pool, tight end Robert Royal, wide receiver Chansi Stuckey, linebacker Jason Trusnik, defensive end Brian Schaefering, fullback Lawrence Vickers, defensive end Corey Williams and linebacker Kamerion Wimbley.

QuoteTwo-time Pro Bowl linebacker  Adalius Thomas faces the possibility of being benched by coach Bill Belichick for the second straight game even though he's healthy.

Thomas, a former Raven, started the first five games but had just 12 tackles. His lone sack came in the opener.

If Thomas is inactive again, at least he won't be caught off guard. He said he was "shocked" when he was told just before the 59-0 win over the Titans that he would be inactive. So he went home and watched the game on television.

Way to be a team player, AD.  Welcome to Belichick's Doghouse, where the laws of nature do not apply.

Hey, he might give a similar answer to the one that Ump did who screwed up the call in the Yankees game. To paraphrase the guy, "Yes, I have seen the replay showing that the guy was clearly not on the bag but I don't believe the replay is showing what really happened, I know he was safe".

Woah.  I know that the Jets are finished without Jenkins, but let's not go crazy here.  Russell is the worst QB in living memory.  He makes Kyle Boller look like Joe Montana, Brady Quinn look like Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf look like Johnny U.  Even when he has played relatively well and won a game, he still looks retarded.

Those are some scheiss match ups. (Gints and Zona might be OK.)

Is it just me or does it seem like the number of awful teams is higher than most years?

Normally we get Vikings and/or Ravens on sundays. Ravens are bye. OTOH they hardly ever show Pittsburgh, which explains my Favre-free sunday this time around. :P

(Next week is Favre-day again)

Whoever scheduled the Patriots and Bucs as their big London exhibition should be fired.  There is nothing interesting in that matchup at all.

Yeah, the NFL has been doing this for a few years, after shutting down NFL Europe.

They held exhibition games in the UK even before NFL Europe, going back to the '80s.  But, looks like it's not going anywhere.

Quotecommissioner Roger Goodell expects the league to start playing multiple regular-season games in Britain in the next few years - an expansion that could lead to putting a franchise in London.

Goodell said Friday that "every indicator" shows the British market can support more games and that having a franchise there is of "tremendous interest" to the league. But he stopped short of giving a timeline for expanding the NFL's overseas presence.

"The interest and the enthusiasm for our game continues to grow, and we want to feed that," Goodell said. "We want to respond to that by hopefully bringing more to the UK."

Goodell spoke at a sports conference Friday ahead of Sunday's game between the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Wembley Stadium. It's the third year in a row the NFL is staging a regular-season game in London, and the league is now looking into playing at least two games a year in Britain, he said. Aside from London, Manchester and Glasgow, Scotland, are being looked at as potential venues.

The league is considering expanding the regular season to 17 or 18 games, with a possibility for every team to play one game abroad. Patriots owner Robert Kraft said if the league wants more of the current franchises to travel internationally for games, the regular season should be extended so that teams can keep the same number of home games. The Bucs are giving up a home game this season.

"I'm not sure our fans would appreciate us giving up a regular-season [home] game, and I know I wouldn't like to do that. But eventually I think there's a chance of that if we expand the schedule," Kraft said.

The Bucs were supposed to practice at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon, but the session has been canceled due to inclement weather. The Bucs are definitely going to massacred. Playing the Patriots + on the road + shitty rookie coach + shitty offense + shitty defense +less familiarity/preperation+ time difference(Patriots arrived Thursday, Bucs arrived Friday)= rape.

The reason why the Bucs decided to leave on Friday? The head coach said he made decision after consulting the Glazers who travel to England frequently because they also own Manchester United. I guess traveling to play in a football game is just like traveling to watch a soccer game.

At least Fox is doing a Minn-Pitt/Chi-Cin doubleheader.

Ok, so it's Patriotards vs. Bucs on the big screen, or 49ers/Texans on a small screen.

Guess I'll stick with the big screen and play a game on the side. <_<

The NFL embarasses itself again with it's AFC offering.

You know, I'm torn by the Vikings-Steelers.  On one hand, the Vikings deserve a loss after their theft last week.  On the other hand, the Steelers are pure evil.

In his case, as the back judge, they'll play short.  Sometimes, if it's a line judge or someone like that, a referee will shift positions to cover, depending which side of the ball it's on.

Anywho, I think that might be the biggest blowout favoring the Bungles that I've ever witnessed firsthand.  Even when the Bungles are doing well, it's a rare treat to have the luxury of being bored in the 2nd half.

Well, the Patriots just had their last two games against the weakest teams in the league. Won the games easily at least, rather than struggling or playing poorly. Now it remains to be seen how they continue to fare vs the league contenders.

NFL is floating the idea of a London team? Not sure if that's any kind of reality thinking or just a whim being tossed about by the sports media. Seems a long way for teams to go to play, or for the London team's away games, and bigger time zone differences, even compared to team travel between the US east and west coast.

I like this idea. The NFL should try to keep some continuity though. The only way this would work would be to send New England back to Old England. I am sure most of the people in the country would applaud the league for this move.

Not sure about a Londong expansion. When NFL Europe folded there were five German teams and a Dutch team in it with the English/Scottish teams long gone. Hell, the Monarchs alternated their home town with every game. Germany, I'd say, remains the biggest European market for football.

Wow, walking to the stadium, it was loudmouth Chicaaaaagoans shooting their mouths off left & right.  From about 3 minutes into the game, they all kept their polish sausage-holes shut except for the dude behind me who left early in the 3rd quarter (though he made sure to point out that hotdogs are better in Chicago).

Given all the recent pandering, the NFL should put its money where its mouth is & put a team in Mexico City that plays in an all-pink facility named Breast Cancer Awareness Stadium.

So....Andre Johnson spent the night in the hospital after yesterday's game.  They're saying it's a bruise, but there was also something about him coughing up blood out on the field after he made his second catch.  They also had to take his helmet away so he wouldn't go back out and try to keep playing.

He's supposed to play against Buffalo, but I am: alarmed.

Edit:  I'd be happy to take him off of...whoever's....hands in LFFL.   I'll send over this badass you might've heard of by the name of Brian Robiskie in exchange.  :goodboy:  Shit I already cut that guy.

Who actually watched the game?  I don't know about anybody else, but I took a look at the schedule last week, saw that Washington was playing in primetime, and promptly decided to find something else to do on Monday Night.

It's funny actually.  In the pregame, they showed a graphic of the NFC East's winning percentages over the last 10 seasons.  The Eagles had won something like 60% of all the games they played, the Giants 55%, the Cowboys were at exactly 50%, and the Redskins were way, way down there.

Odd, I don't find anything funny about that at all.

Snyder makes it funny.  The way he goes through coaches, the way he dumped Schottenheimer, who is still one of the Great Captains of NFL head coaching, despite his playoff woes, the way he acts like the NFC's version of Al Davis.  I guess it's sad if you're a Redskins fan and you remember how the team was under competant ownership, and even from the outside it's too bad to see a once proud franchise on the rocks, but bad things happening to a marketing asshole is nice.

Well they haven't had competent ownership since Jack Kent Cooke got too old to do anything.  The team simply has no direction, Snyder bends with the winds too easily and has no clue what he wants the team to look like besides a vague notion he wants to win.  Hiring an inexperienced guy like Zorn only to throw him under the bus when he doesn't win right away is perfectly typical.  I figured if you are going to go with a rising star sorta guy like Zorn you would have to step back and let him fuck up a bit first or why try a gamble like that in the first place?  It just makes no sense...I mean he just got done hiring a veteran head coach to run the team, offense, and defense and then he turns around and does that?  It just boggles the mind.

Anyway if he keeps screwing around coaches like Zorn, Spurrier, and Schottenheimer nobody who has any choice in the matter is going to want to work for him, presuming any of them still do which is unlikely, so he might as well develop some patience and vision and not just react to everything.  I have no idea how somebody could even run a taco stand with Snyder's management style.  Is that what he does in business?  No vision, no mission statement, no plan just reactionary hiring and firing based on whims?
