It might be less painful too.... I don't think you can hug a vegetarian's nuts without squeezing them with your hand, really.

Vegans are messed up in the head all right.  I remember this one half wit bitch on the radio saying that she tried to make sure her dog didn't like meat.

I think the her turning is more likely.  She's seems really attracted to women, and was miffed when I didn't know what the LFL was.

You people may be shocked to hear this, but not only am I tolerant of vegetarianism, but I cook vegetarian dishes fairly often myself.  We had black bean and corn quesadillas two nights this week for dinner.

I think ethical vegans are insane, but I think partial vegetarianism is a good way to keep your diet varied.  I go out of my way to prepare a vegetarian (and occasionally vegan) entree at least once every two weeks, if not more often.

Vegetarians who are not militant about it are OK.  Vegans, in my limited experience with them, tend to be in it mostly for the moral superiority.

I have a friend who in college, for no particular reason, up and decided to become a vegetarian... he's the kind of guy who challenges himself just to see if he can stick to something.  He's been a vegetarian ever since.  He doesn't lecture anyone about eating meat or anything like that... in short, he's still totally cool.

Yeah, I've known a few "hardcore" vegans and they tend to be impossible to like... extremely narrow-minded, intolerant people all around.

Agreed. And I'm not even an avid meat eater. I have no problem with veggie meals either. I just find annoyance with the militant types of vegans or anti-meat eaters.

Sounds like me, only I'm also doing it to try and loose weight.  I used to eat a pretty ridiculous amount of meat every day.  Loved it.  Now, as a Vegetarian, I mostly eat so that I don't starve or so that I can think.

I don't know what you mean by "ethical consumption".  If you mean that you only eat meat that was killed "humanely" or something, I think you're a bit odd, but not insane.  If you mean you don't eat any animal products at all for ethical reasons, then yes.

In your case, it's likely just the misguided idealism and self-righteousness of youth.  You're too old to suffer from such a malady, generally speaking, but since you're a full time student now it's like you've regressed in age a little bit. :)

  I don't really care what other people eat.  Although from a top-down view, people shouldn't eat cattle and pigs, not because they're worth sparing, but because of the environmental and economic impact of their domestication.  This, aside from intelligence, is the other reason I drew the line at mammals.

The practical upshot is that I'm killing a lot more birds now. : /

Oh yeah, the whole "mammals are too smart to eat bit".  I'd forgotten about that. -_-

The point about how livestock raising is extremely inefficient use of land and resources isn't a bad one, though.  I would agree that our culture eats more meat than I should from that standpoint.  I don't personally care what animal is the meat source however.

Meh, I think a dairy farm in a moist, lush environment could run pretty efficiently, as far as environment/economic impact goes.  Lush enough to grow feed grass(maybe not all they would need, but a fair bit), get the milk and cheese out 'em, and cull the occasional cow for meat.

But why?

Because hot chicks in lingerie doing anything is usually a pleasant thing.

Okay. :)

Nope, I was never a part of Old Languish, outside of lurking a bit.

Oh, cool. :) I was just curious. Glad you're not so much lurking now. :)

Charliebear is Sav's friend, not Syt's.

I'm probably off but given the nature of dairyfarming I'm not sure a cull of the occassional cow will suffice.

Japanese vegetarian food is also wonderful.

I couldn't live on any combination of east Asian vegetarian cuisines.  Italian, Indian, and Mexican would be no problem.
You might be living in the wrong place then.

I'm not a vegetarian.  I love Asian food, but it really needs meat and seafood most of the time.  To be vegetarian I need lots of cheese or heavy vegetables and spices to replace the meat, so Asian is out.

Especially bad is Jain vegetarian food.  They're not allowed to eat things like potato, carrot, garlic, and onions, because eating them destroys the life of the plant.  Some Jains won't even gather crops, they only  eat things that fall off the tree or plant naturally.

Wow.  Are they allowed to walk on grass?  I guess antibiotics are out as well since you know, they kill living germs.

These kinds of philosophies used to sort of make sense, before science told us about the existence of bacteria and the like.  You're right... I mean, every time you sit in a chair you probably smoosh dozens of bacteria.
