Okay, so how's this for dirty politics: A news report calling out (with at least some historical evidence) Trump's father, Fred Trump, for being a member of the KKK in 1927:

I'd say that technically t's only dirty politics if it's not true.

If it's true, brining it up is kind of lame and insult to the intelligence of the voters.  Granted, the voters might actually be that stupid.

Actually, given that it looks like the 2 major parties are going to nominate Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump for President, there is a very good argument that the voters are indeed that stupid.

And it's only technically politics if opposition research leaked the story to...boingboing.

I don't think any of the campaigns need to be involved for the story to be political.

One thing I was thinking about in regards to Christie endorsing Trump. I was wondering what their relationship is, their history. I mean, Trump is a real estate mogul who made billions on casinos in New Jersey, among other places, right? There has to be history there, and probably not very savory history either.

Which then made me think...if the Clintons got as much shit as they did over tame crap like Whitewater, how is Trumps business background going to survive any kind of serious investigation, if he were to be elected?

I think the answer is that to a certain extent it doesn't matter. Scandals involving a president turn into team a vs. team b regardless of the substance (up to a very high limit). I suspect that Watergate wouldn't result in the president resigning in the current environment for that reason.

Now it may be different with Trump because team republican may not back him up.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

I saw that Team Establishment was making inroads into that side of Trump during the debate (I have only seen snippets of it), when they tried to corner him re: his tax returns.

Berkut raises a good point.  How do you run a casino without greasing a few mob and local politican palms?

Especially in Atlantic City. It's part of the business.

I have seen him defend Planed Parenthood and socialized medicine in a republican primary debate without that making a dent on his polling #s. If that doesn't kill Trump, nothing will. If this was a videogame we'd be crying foul at how bad the simulation is.

Yeah. You guys are acting as if Trump did not operate outside of the Paradigm (tm).

I don't know about that.  Atlantic City is a horribly corrupt hellhole, but as far as I know, it's not a mobbed up hellhole.  Maybe it's just a good sales pitch, but their gaming commission is actually very intolerant of any suspected mob connections to any of the casino operators.

AC has depressingly shitty everything.  Even at its peak it was a wasteland, and it's in terminal decline because now everyone wants to have such a wasteland right in their own backyard.

The story I heard is that all the casino companies focused on Macau in recent years, at the expense of Atlantic City or even Las Vegas.
