Agreed, but then again I prefer Morena Baccarin to Jewel Staite as well.

Yes, Morena is hotter than Jewel, yes. But I prefer the personality of the Kaylee character to the personality of the Inara character. That flips the order. I know nothing about Morena or Jewels personality at all, I can only judge them on looks.
First Maxim - "There are only two amounts, too few and enough."
First Corollary - "You cannot have too many soldiers, only too few supplies."
Second Maxim - "Be willing to exchange a bad idea for a good one."
Second Corollary - "You can only be wrong or agree with me."

A terrorist which starts a slaughter quoting Locke, Burke and Mill has completely missed the point.
The fact remains that the only person or group to applaud the Norway massacre are random Islamists.

There is something about the Kaylee character that is extremely HOTT, but I've never understood what it is.  I know a bunch of other Languishites, as well as RL friends, feel the exact same way.  There is little about Jewel Staite that would normally make her attractive in my eyes, so I think it's something about the character's attributes, or maybe something about her voice or something else more subliminal.

My guess is that the average internet nerd could more relate to a natural acting tech girl than to a high society hetaera. It's way less intimidating.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Agree, I don't really think I'd have much in common with a high class courtesan, while I know from experience that I have much incommon with "a natural acting tech girl". You make a wise point.

Yeah, maybe that's it.  Her character was certainly unusual for a Hollywood role.

Also, Inara was a largely emotionless dress up doll, while Kaylee was a character visibly having fun.

Sounds like a nice show :)
Hopefully, it won't get cancelled after 13 episodes.

Hopefully they have a structured story arc which finishes when the story is complete. Immediately followed by the writers and producers getting Hugo Awards galore and they immediately move on to make quality sci-fi or television somewhere else.

That's imposible.

I blame the shallowness of the standard sci-fi fan for this. You are, unfortunately in this case, right.

(I had no idea V. was based on a Sinclair Lewis novel.)
Not did anyone else.  It was inspirted by the SL novel, but not based on it, even loosely.  Raz has either not read the book, or not seen the miniseries.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you are wrong.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

The original V series was pretty great; very good special fx for a tv show of the time (not counting lizard baby). The second series sucked monkey balls.

I liked it all throughout, though I'll admit it was much cooler early on.

For the record: I preferred Kaylee over Inara by miles.

Those are not the characters Morena & Jewel played.

Stargate > Farsuck & that other show.
Colonel Caliga is Awesome.
