Top U.S. Travel Destinations for 2013

The rest of Lonely Planet's Top 10 destinations: Fairbanks, Alaska (2); San Juan Islands, Washington (3), Philadelphia (4); American Samoa (5); Eastern Sierra, California (6); northern Maine (7); Twin Cities, Minnesota (8); Verde Valley, Arizona (9); and Glacier National Park, Montana (10).

You know, I've been to the Twin Cities and Glacier National Park, which are both nice.

But any list that puts Fairbanks, Alaska at #2 is a deeply flawed list.

From what I found, Fairbanks is basically included based on the Northern Lights alone. 

And the ice sculpture festival!

This ranking actually made the nightly news a few days ago.

Downtown Louhville is surprisingly quirky and charming.  Old, narrow roads that zigzag and meander.

Yeah, but I drive through Kentucky to get to downtown (275 to 471).  Actually quicker that way.  And sometimes I go over to Newport or Covington for lunch.
