QuoteIn a poignant letter to fans on her Facebook page, Fiona Apple announced that she's postponing her upcoming South American tour to care for her dying dog Janet who suffers from Addison's Disease.

"I can't leave her now, please understand," Apple wrote, posting scans of the handwritten copy as well. "If I go away again, I'm afraid she'll die and I won't have the honor of singing her to sleep, of escorting her out."

Apple recently finished up the last leg of her North American tour, and noted that upon her return the once playful pitbull "doesn't even want to go for walks anymore." Apple apparently found Janet as a pup in Los Angeles' Echo Park, with a rope around her neck and bites on her ear and face , indicating the pooch was used by dogfighters to "puff up the confidence of the contenders."

The South American leg of Apple's tour behind The Idler Wheel . . . was set to kick off November 27th in Porto Alegre, Brazil. No word yet on when those dates will be rescheduled, but Apple promised she would make up the shows.

"Sometimes it takes me 20 minutes to pick which socks to wear to bed," Apple added. "But this decision is instant. These are the choices we make, which define us. I am not the woman who puts her career ahead of love and friendship. I'm the woman who stays home, and bakes tilapia for my dearest, oldest friend."

So not about this artist in particular, but what do you think about that, Languish, as a reason to cancel (or reschedule) an arm of one's tour?

Family comes first.

It's her career.  If she chooses to prioritize family over career, that's her choice.

Yeah my thought is that I can totally understand it - though I could also understand being pissed if I was a fan who had tickets then. (thankfully I've already seen her this year :D)

It's Fiona Apple.  Any fan would certainly expect this sort of thing.

She does have a dreamy voice, though.

True though I think at least here, some patience has worn thin especially with regards to how difficult it can be to get non-scalped tickets these days.

I can understand that, but a fan getting upset by this from someone like Fiona Apple is like getting upset with the Stone Temple Pilots because a certain member gets arrested/relapses/goes into inpatient.  :D

SON OF A

Stole my gag.

There's actually a reason I arranged my OP as I did. Didn't want to deal with issues of newsworthiness. :D

I have no idea who Fiona Apple is but I assume she is the kind of artist with a tight-knit small fan base. Such people have a completely different relationship with their audiences (which is often akin to that of virtual friendship) than a professional entertainer like Madonna, so I assume most of them won't mind.
