Very interesting to see the world through their eyes.  Journalistic quality isn't all that high, but with what their politicized editorial process must be, it's to be expected.

He is?  I thought he was some kind of communist.

He's a "Bolivarian Socialist" or something like that.  Basically a Marxist with some of his own flavor added.  He had a spat with the church up until somewhat recently, but has often praised Jesus Christ as the "first true socialist".  And there's this:

I never entirely got the hate for Chavez.  I don't think he's anywhere near as bad as many have made out.  He's always been more Putin than Ahmedinejad or Khamenei.

I just thought he was another South American populist dictator.  The only reason he was hated was because of his nonsense in Columbia...well ok actually it was because Martim had a boner about him for a while and was really annoying about it.

I dislike him simply for destroying Venezuela.  But lots of South American leaders have destroyed their countries.
