I think Vikings point is that only women who are unhappy are looking for an escape into a fantasy world. This shades of grey just happens to be the fad fantasy of the moment.

Don't agree, but it's a more reasonable assertion.

Still seems a bit much. I don't think you have to be unhappy to indulge in a little fantasy.
Everybody indulges in fantasy.

It's really the fantasy of the man in her life being an alpha male. It's not about the woman being unhappy, it's about the woman being unhappy with her relationship and thinking a more manly man would fix that.

It's the romance novel crowd which has temporarily moved on to BDSM. They read romance novels for the same reason.

As for the violence bit, BDSM is, or at least the BDSM fantasy is, not about violence but rather submission. I am determined not to read these books, I have better things to do with my life than read books of the Boones & Mills & Bondage variety. But I have read reviews. So I won't refer to it. What really baffles me is that nobody has fixed onto the anti-feminist side of this. The woman finds fulfillment not in her own achievement but rather in ritually submitting to what she views as a worthy man.
First Maxim - "There are only two amounts, too few and enough."

Second Maxim - "Be willing to exchange a bad idea for a good one."
Second Corollary - "You can only be wrong or agree with me."

There's been loads of feminist comment on exactly that.

Remembering this shit when you launch a sneak attack in another thread? Even better.

hmm.. I'll agree to the supposition that I don't seek out much feminist commentary; or really commentary on 50 shades. I just would have expected to have run into it in reading that I do.

I believe the SM part in BDSM is more about violence, whereas the BD is more about submission.

I'll admit I'm surprised by this continued dressing down.

It's not a dressing down! Well, it isn't meant to be.

I've long thought that this was why Seedy was so into the whole Dom thing. I'm not condemning; merely conjecturing. I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. And honestly, Seedy's devotion to the women in his life is one of his most endearing qualities. It's part of the reason he's one of my favorite posters.

Sorry but it came across to me as a bit emasculating.

Somewhere, as the computer screen flickers in an otherwise dark basement, an Asian waitress is quaking in fear as she tugs futilely against her restraints. She senses that her captor is unhappy with what he's just read, and knows what will follow as a result ...

I figured it out with GangstaKitty a while ago;  if I leave some bags on the floor around the table--you know, convenience store/grocery store plastic bags--she'll stay away from the maps.  She loves to lay on those fucking bags.
And leaving the game boxes on the floor, of course.

I figured by golden retriever had Nazi sympathies when she chewed up the French counter mix from Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Ultimately only one garrison unit was lost, but the infantry and IC markers were chewed up and they disincentivized players from playing france.
