DISNEY WORLD AAR
Part II: The Food Report

The Magic Kingdom
Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café (Tomorrowland): I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries.  Meh.

Tomorrowland Terrace (Tomorrowland):  Princesca got us this thing where you got to watch the closing ceremony light show and fireworks here plus a dessert buffet.  The buffet had some neat stuff on it (little cheesecakes, apple pie tarts), but nothing remarkable.

Pinocchio Village Haus (Fantasyland):  Everybody said this place sucks, but I got a personal pepperoni pizza here and it was actually pretty good.

Tiki Juice Bar (Adventureland):  Princesca and I split this thing called a Dole Whip from there.  Basically, it's soft-serve pineapple ice cream.  I liked it.

Epcot
Akershus Royal Banquet Hall (Norway Pavilion):  Breakfast buffet with the Princesses (for the niece).  Aside from the afortmentioned ghastly lutefisk, they had bacon, sausage, and eggs for the picky yet fat American crowd, but I mostly ate a continental-style breakfast of pastries with jams (lingonberry and cloudberry), smoked salmon, and salami slices, all of which was very good.

Kringla Bakeri og Kafe (Norway Pavilion):  Princesca and I spilt a skolebrød.  Delicious.

No-name beer stand (Germany):  I had a pint of Pilsner and a pint of Oktoberfest.  The Oktoberfest was great but the Pilsner kinda sucked... it was way too hoppy. :yuk:  I pefer pilsners that are really light on the hops.

No-name junk food stand (Japan):  Princesca and I split a nectarine kakigori.  Also delicious, but she forgot to get the condensed milk poured on it so I fear I didn't get the whole kakigori experience. :(

Tangerine Cafe (Morocco):  Had dinner here one night; I got chicken shawarma with couscous, hummus, and flatbread and Princesca got the lamb shawarma plate.  Thought it was great, though Princesca felt that the dudes working there were really rude so she didn't like it as much.

Boulangerie Pâtisserie (France):  Ate lunch here.  I had a ham and cheese baguette, Princesca had a turkey and brie baguette, and we split a strawberry tart.  Simple but delicious... one of my favorite meals of the trip.

Hollywood Studios
Starring Rolls Cafe:  Ate lunch here.  I had a turkey sammich with swiss on focaccia.  Forget what Princesca had (maybe the same thing).  We split this thing called a Butterfinger Cupcake afterward, which is like a cupcake with crushed Butterfinger junk on top and frosting of some sort between that and the (chocolate) cupcake.  Twas good.

Animal Kingdom
some snack cart:  Princesca got a jalapeno soft pretzel, which was fucking awesome.  We gave a piece to my niece and she spit it out and was trying to brush the burny off of her tongue.  I wish I took a picture of that.

Flame Tree BBQ:  Had a pulled pork sandwich with fries.  It was ok but definitely nothing memorable to someone who's got better BBQ places in nearby gas stations. :showoff:

Yak and Yeti's:  I got beef lo mein and Princesca got honey chicken.  My lo mein was good but she didn't like the chicken very much.  I was kind of annoyed that a place in an Indian-themed section of the park didn't have any curry dishes. :glare:

Downtown Disney
The Earl of Sandwich:  I got a Hawaiian BBQ sandwich (basically, turkey and ham with pineapple slices and BBQ sauce).  Not bad.  Princesca got a roast beef and cheddar with horseradish sandwich--hers was better than mine IMO.

Goofy's Candy Company:  Princesca bought a bunch of shit here for her co-workers.  I settled for some walnut fudge (which wasn't anything noteworthy).

French Quarter Resort
We went here as part of our effort to scout out possible hotels to stay at when we next return and don't have the fucking poors with us, and thus don't have to stay at a 'value' resort.  Since we got there around dinnertime it made sense to eat there, also.  We got chicken jambalaya and cornbread from their food court.  Both were good but the cornbread was 'Yankee' cornbread.... the sweet kind that is more like a cake than real southern cornbread.  I like this variety of cornbread but much prefer the real stuff you cook in a skillet.  We also got beignets for dessert.... they were good, but not as good as Cafe du Monde's beignets.

Animal Kingdom Lodge
Jiko:  This is one of Disney's signature restaurants and Princesca made us reservations here six months in advance.  It's an African-themed restaurant where the dishes are mostly not quite African, but do have African influences worked into them.  They served us multigrain breads with a delicious tandoori butter, and then we ordered two appetizers--a wild boar fricassee thing on a bed of mealie pap that was outstanding, and a flatbread (kind of reminded me of a fried injera) with arugula, steak tartare, and some sort of cheese smeared on top.  For my main course I had a Gulf shrimp curry that was amazing--easily the best shrimp dish I've ever had.  It was seasoned with berebere lemongrass and served on a bed of coconut basmati.  Princesca got a filet mignon with some sort of truffle mac and cheese that's not on the menu anymore, but they still make it on request.  For dessert I had a berry cheesecake slice and she had some sort of peanut butter tart thing.  I had a South African chardonnay and she had some sort of blended South African red (all of the wines at this place are South African).  I don't think I'd ever had South African wine before and based on these two samples was not especially impressed, but they weren't bad or anything.  We also had Kenyan pressed coffee for dessert, which was extremely strong... just the way I like it.

Contemporary Resort
Chef Mickey's:  We also went here for my niece... they have a buffet and a bunch of Disney toons come around dressed as chefs to mingle with the kids.  I can't remember most of what I ate here but I did have a pork and rice thing that was really good.

He did ride the Dinosaur! ride with me, and that thing was crazy. I am certain that we'd have all been thrown from the vehicle if it wasn't for the lap bar/belt. It was so intense that my legs were all trembly after. It seems that Disney is moving more and more toward simulator rides. And why not, I guess... no track to maintain, total immersion...
...no glasses to be dislodged and lost forever... etc. etc. etc.

Princesca was ever-present, so no.  Most of them lacked the assets I am interested in anyway. :)

She was there in the 90s (whereas I was there in the 80s),

I was there in 1975, at 5 years old.  I remember the glass bottom of the ship for the Pirates of the Carribean, and some house that you walked through that was upside down.

Of course, being 5, I was a lot more charged over the Pan Am flight.  I got a Captain's Wings pin for being such a good crew member.  :smarty:

I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I'm afraid I'll lose my baseball cap, even tho I'm usually sitting on it, stand up coasters usually pose proplem tho.

I remember I did lose my baseball cap back in junior high - high school on a Red River Ex ride.  It was my favourite Royals hat too.
