Is LA recommendable at all? There's quite a few places/cities I'd like to visit or things I'd like to do (like a roadtrip through the Deep South or the rural Midwest), but LA somehow is pretty far down my list.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Yes it is. Certainly more than those other two. :x

So, tell me ten things to see in L.A. before I die.

When are you looking at being there Larch?

I need to head down to LA for Union dealings and want to go visit friends and family(which I have all through out the state)
Is this a euphemism for mafia hit?
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Coolness indeed. When would you be back from the east coast?

Wedding is on 7th of July, i would rather read all of Lettow's posts then stay on East coast in July so probably be in Cali after 10th.

I have tons of friends and family, not to mention need to spend week on training classes for Cinematographers Guild in Burbank, so would be in Cali most of rest of July.

Nothing that exciting, have to take week of safety training classes for IATSE 600 union membership.

Great, we'll keep in touch then, and maybe you could show us around LA, which seems to be a monster to navigate.

Also, I bow down to your superior knowledge of yanqui car rentals. For how much would a RV for a party of 4-6 people go? It'd be a couple of weeks plus mileage, right? I've seen estimations on the 3000 $ area.

katmai

I don't have much knowledge of RV rentals (the luxury have having one already :D)

I've rented them for work up here, and that sounds about right for Rentals here (but Alaska is usually more expensive then any other place in US, so not sure how compares to Cali)
CruiseAmerica Is one of biggest national rv rental places i know of, are their prices comparable?

It was with them that I checked.

How is driving in California, btw? Doable for a furriner?

katmai

I'd think so, only pain in the ass areas are LA and rush hour traffic in SF/SD areas. But you guys at least drive on the right side of the road.

Venice Beach
Rodeo Drive
La Brea Tar Pits
Getty Museum
Griffith Observatory
LA Nightlife
Olvera Street
Hollywood Walk of Fame
Star Maps (:D)
See a concert at the Hollywood Bowl

And maybe as an honorable mention - Universal City Walk / Universal Studios (this one only occurred to me when I looked up how my list compared to published top ten lists)

I'm not sure I understand the point of coming to California if one wasn't planning on driving. :D

No shit.  What movie was it in where the guy from New York was out on a street in downtown LA, bitching about how a city this big could have no taxicabs?
