The only chick I ever dated that liked guns was the furriner I ended up marrying. And she's more accurate with my Glock 17 than I am.

My wife doesn't even practice and she assrapes the paper targets. I take 3 months off, and I'm back to Italian army 1941 levels of marksmanship.

Pisses me off.

Mine too. And her sister. Some women are naturals.

Every girl I've ever dated has been nervous about guns but totally turned on once they start firing. The shooting range is the absolute best date idea.

YOu know, when you see gun people going on about their guns (and I don't mean that in a dismissive manner - lord knows I can go on about the things I find interesting), it makes the entire gun control debate centered around the "individual right" and the 2nd Amerndment  seem so silly.

Very few of the people who care about owning guns care because they want to make sure they can overthrow the government if necessary, or even so they can defend themselves, or any other purely theoretical, practical reason to own a gun.

It sounds like you're saying owning guns can only be for one reason and not multiple reasons.

Not at all - I am saying that the reason most people who are passionate defenders of the individual right to bear arms are motivated to do so is based not on any desire to protect themselves from tyranny or even to protect their family, but simply because guns are a cool toy.

Quote
But why am I wasting my breath.  I don't need to prove to you some need to exercise my second amendment freedom,

You don't need to prove anything to anyone. I will note, however, that the Second Amendment having anything to do with an individual right to bear arms is a figment of the supreme court. But that is neither here nor there.

My point is simply this: You don't really care about the Second Amendment per se (insofar as it exists for an actual purpose beyond the words it embodies)- you care about having the right to collect guns, because you like them.

or my first amendment freedom, or other freedoms.

Well, I submit that there is a fundamental difference between the "right to own guns" 'freedom' and other freedoms. Namely - that the right to own guns in the manner the NRA and gun afficionados purport is neither necessary or conducive to a free state, and therefore isn't a fundamnetal right at all, but simply a figment of a particular historical precedent.

I imagine if the Brits had tried to collect everyone's horses instead of the militia's guns at Concord and Lexington, we would all be arguing about the right to go zero to sixty in 3.5 seconds without interference in your basic right to keep and own transportation by the State.

Quote
Hell, it's not as if you want to keep the second amendment in the first place.

True enough.
QuoteThey want to have guns because they are a pretty damn cool toy.

A gun is not a toy.

Of course it is, in the same way some people collect cars as toys. Or thoroughbred horses. Or any other do-dad.

Speaking of guns, I still have the Raven .25 sitting in my safe upstairs. Still have no idea what I should do with it...

There are guns big enough to shoot out other, smaller guns?  Cool!
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Save it for a local gun buyback.

Keep it.  They're too young yet, but you should teach your kids how to properly handle a gun.  Not to fire it, mind you, but how to make sure one is empty, how to properly hand it to somebody, etc.

You never know when they'll come across one out in the real world (or heaven forbid, a friend's house) when you're not around.  But there's nothing wrong with safety first.
