I noticed that as well but assumed he was in the middle of a revision and posted by mistake.

 I have NEVER heard Catholics avoiding God's name.  In fact, with all their repetition of novenas, hailing Mary, and such they're like the opposite of Jews in this respect.

@ CM & Valmy: That's what I read, but I have / had reasons to doubt that particular student is Jewish.

Doing a little internet research, there seems to be at least one Christian who chooses to write it this way.  From a comment on a blog post criticizing the God/G-d distinction:
QuotePsh you evidently are going to hell, no doubt about it. Yeah, im a christian, not a jew. i perfer G-d to God bc i have respect for my Creater, unlike you. I am not a religous psycho, i live my life to a higher standered than you, fact is, you couldnt handle it.

Just know that Jesus Loves you, there's only 1 G-d, and dont refer to the Creator of the breath you breaths "dong", its disgusting and immature.

but then again, i bet your too immature to care.

Does it sound like your student's writing?   :P

I was going to say, this is a behavior I've seen adopted by many wacky internet Christians. I suspect they got it from Jews, but their reasons for the behavior are considerably less coherent.

Nobody said they weren't psycho Catholics. Who the h-ll knows.

From http://www.jewfaq.org/name.htm

QuoteNormally, we avoid writing the Name by substituting letters or syllables, for example, writing "G-d" instead of "God."
So to avoid writing God they write G-d, removing the vowel, how it would be written in Hebrew?  Strikes me as somewhat odd.

And aren't there a number of names God in Judaism?mes for

You have a heart attack and slump over on the keyboard or something?
I'm on a long train ride and posting from my phone.  Sometimes when a go backwards in text while writing instead of allowing me to go back to where I left off it keeps trying to dinish the word I was typing, oddly enough not allowing me to go forward and fix it as every scroll foward results in an auto fix.  Spent 10 minutes trying to fix it, annoying as fuckall.

'God' isn't even a proper noun.  They might be respecting their 'creater', but they're disrespecting their language.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

Maybe she wants your cock.  :)

Or instead of wanting to fuck you, maybe she's just doing it to fuck with you.  :)

 Good point Spellus, but moot since they'd never write the name of God in Hebrew anyway, which by the way is YHWH.

Robert Graves argued that YHWH was just a substitute for the real hidden name.

which was drawn from the vocal vibrations that animate the entire universe.

in other words, vowels.

thus, AEOUI

I think there is speculation that in very ancient Hebrew God was known as Ioa or Ia, which amuses me.

Ia!  Ia! :cthulu:

P.S. kat fails at spelling Cthulhu.
