To be fair, though, the general feeling here in Austria seems to be, "Yeah, would have been nice if they had taken him alive, but kililng him isn't a big loss, either", even though the media latch onto every supposed inconsistency in the official story.

I am trying to imagine how taking him alive could be a good thing for anyone other than Osama. And maybe not even him.

I agree, Obama can't even get rid of the terrorists we have at Gitmo.  What's he going to do with Bin Laden.  What if Bin Laden hired good lawyers and escaped a guilty verdict on some technicality?  It could have easily ended up like the Milosevic thing.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Being tortured to death with legalistic minutiae?  I think the Navy seals were more humane.

Admittedly that seems to be the modern Euro solution to problems.  Being boring at it till the enemy gives in or dies.

German news station had a report about the SEALs, and Seal Team Six ... in which they presented this unit badge for them:

I guess they just used google image search for "seal team six". And/or a nerd at the station playing a prank.

Meanwhile, a German high speed train was stopped and evacuated, because in the on board bistro someone found a CD labelled "Allah wird uns alle töten" (Allah will kill us all).

If that's all it takes to stop a train these days, then disrupting public life has just become a lot easier for terrorists.

That's what I've been saying for quite a while.  The real damage by terrorism is done when we react to it.  Sometimes it's just unavoidable, but it still important to keep the ultimate terrorist goal in mind.  Every time someone's nuts are felt at the airport, the terrorist win just a little bit.

I don't think they consider that a 'win'.

This.

I mean, he may be dead, but he still won the war.

America is trillions in debt. Most spent on a war in the wrong country.
Travelling by train but especially by plane, has become the largest pain in the arse.
Our civil liberties have been taken away.
And we've become a bit more like them, cheering and shouting USA when some Arab dies, reminiscent of what they do when they kill an American pilot.

Osama is laughing with all those virgins  in his grave or belly of the whale or wherever his body is.

that's a rather dishonest retelling of the events, but i suppose that should be expected given the nature of the rest of the post

Do you know what their objectives are?
