I doubt you have to worry about the war ending any time soon.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Siege

Hopefully it will be over in Iraq.
My last deployment there was quite a waste of my time and of the years of active duty infantry I have left in me.
I will be 40 this year.
Running 5 miles in 40 minutes is not that funny anymore.

I definitively do not want ot go back to Iraq.

I really like this thread title. It is concise.
"I've never been quite sure what the point of a eunuch is, if truth be told. It seems to me they're only men with the useful bits cut off."
I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim.

The older you get the funnier it is.  :P

Course, I haven't been able to run 8 minute miles since I was a teenager.

I can still run 2 miles at better than 8 minute miles.
The problem is keeping up that speed after 20 minutes or so.
Age is not something to joke about.
It really slows you down quite a bit.

Lets just put it this way. If i had one wish, I would not ask for billions, but for being 18 again.

I am an old man trying to rule a young men world.

We all have diferent priorities. Some, or rather most, measure success in coin.
I measure success in something else.

But I confess to you that sometimes I ask myself wheather I measure success like this because it is what I value or because this is  the place where decissions I took long ago led me to and I have no other choice left.

Nah, they'll just think he's driving a Japanese car or something.

The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Well, it is official. I am in the 101st Airborne Division, The Screaming Eagles. I'm in the 3rd Brigade, The Rakkasans, in the 3-187th Infantry Battalion, Iron Rakkasans.
Now, guess what company and platoon I am.
Yep, once again I am in the Battalion's Reconanssance Platoon, as the Battalion's senior sniper, as the sniper section leader. My new call-sign, is Raptor Leader. OPSEC Buster

fixed
When you get your new call sign, please do not reveal it here or anywhere else.

It is not that big of a deal.
I guarantee you that there more than one Raptor in the US Army.

As long as it isn't anything horribly Americana like Steel Rain or Knight, Raptor don't sound half as bad as it could.

I like Knight better then Raptor.  Knight could be someone's last name though.  Do they let you pick your call sign?  You should be "Pinky" or "Driftwood".

My nomination for Siegy's nick: Curmudgeon 1.

Sounds almost affable like your grandfather's brother, except he'll blow your head off if you even THINK about looking at that AK.

Second suggestion would be: Grumbler 1.

Although, that might be too meta for Siegy.

As part of the Recon platoon, my call-sign have to start with either "R" for Recon or "S" for Scout.
I used to be Stalker 4. (Scout platoon 4th squad leader, meaning the Sniper section. Line infantry platoons have the 4th squad as the weapons squad)

Typical Recon call signs are Ripper, Rover, Rock, Rocker, Raptor, Raiper, etc.
Scout call signs are Stalker, Shadow, Shaver, Slim, Snake, etc.

Sniper call signs can be anything, typically a two word call-sign, but starting with "S" is preferred.
Most famous ones back during the Surge were "Spider Monkey" and "Shake and Bake".

These two teams ruled the nights of Baghdad from APR 2007 to SEP 2007.
