I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

I think it is a bigger better story for the UK types.

I was reading a story about how in the byelections yesterday it was a shocking how the Conservatives almost lost Calgary Centre.

I worked on an election in Calgary Centre.  Now don't get me wrong - the Cons can and should win that riding.  But it will never be a slam dunk.  It's the urban centre with all the counter-culture types.  It contains some of the towns oldest and wealthiest neighborhoods - champagne socialist HQ.  It has lots of college students.

Reform/Conservatives have lost this riding before.  Calgary Southwest this isn't.

Ignatieff would have been a good Prime Minister, imho.  His only problem was, he was leading the Liberal Party of Canada.
I'm less sure.  He never really seemed to 'get' Parliament the way Harper does or Layton did.  Ignatieff carried himself like he wanted to be Governor-General or President, not Prime Minister.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

Yeah, Calgary Centre is basically Calgary's version of Edmonton-Strathcona, and Edmonton-Centre was a Liberal fortress for years.  It's not like it's impossible for one of the anti-Alberta parties to get elected in Alberta.

So Trudeau the younger believes the gun registry was a mistake, and if he becomes PM, he won't reinstate it.  The registry created divisions in Canada and is non functional.  Guns are part of Canadian culture, he says.

However, he says he would still vote against dismantling it.

Great politician we have there

We should go old school. Convicted of committing a gun crime and get your trigger fingers amputated. Win-Win
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

Neil

Why would Trudeau bother with that?  He's already burnt his bridges in much of the West with his 'fuck Alberta' speeches, although CC will continue to support him so long as he talks ambiguously about pot.

He voted 17 times against dismantling the gun registry.
Many Liberals now support him and say the same.

I, and well, many others, suspect he's trying to build back those bridges he burnt in the West.

I'm not sure what a Trudeau could do to win back Alberta.

There is no such thing as "the West" anymore (to the extent such a thing ever existed).  BC Alberta and Saskatchewan have widely differing interests.  Although I suppose Alberta and Sask may have more similarities than differences.

There is however a rural urban split and Trudeau must have recognized that if he does not attract some of the rural vote away from the Conservatives he has no shot at government.

Neil

I think that the West still exists in a weakened form, but that the rural-urban divide is a lot more important in most places.

Yea I think Manitoba and Saskatchewan actually have something in common, unlike the three mentioned.

Once again the Harper Government lets Canadian down & allows CNOOC take over of Nexen.

Colonel Caliga is Awesome.

How so?

The shareholders are happy  - they voted unanimously in favour some time ago.

The company will become better capitalized and will continue to exploit the resource returning royalities to the Province.  The Feds and province will continue to collect corporate tax from the corporate entity and income tax from everyone who works on the project.

If we didnt let any foreign ownership I suppose you might feel better but then the oil patch would never have been developed.
