In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

LOL a distraction from the deficit? While you FOOLS were over there wasting your time and attention not changing your clocks we ran up an enormous deficit BWAHAHAHAHA.

Is there no end to the villainy of these time change meddlers?

Duque de Bragança

Quote from: Grey Fox on March 02, 2026, 05:06:14 PMBC is making the sensible choice and moving permanently to Summer time this weekend.

Moving permanently to Summer time would be a mistake here since it's 2 hours ahead (CET = GMT / UTC +2) of the pre-1940 time. Now permanent Winter time would be acceptable.

Plans were announced and then shelved anyways.

Yeah, the bench strength of the opposition to the government isn't that great at the moment.  the deficit is problematic, and has not been adequately explained by the government.  But this is definitely not a credible way to address the issue.

Same here, I'd be happy to give up summertime if that meant it would kill off talk of moving to GMT+1 all year round.  :bleeding:

Some people here are thinking that we should move Quebec to what is now the Atlantic timezone.

Montreal issue is standard time in summer means the sun is up at 4:30 am. That's not useful to a modern society.

I would like to have a timezone where the sun gets up at 6:30 am in summer.

Farmers and construction workers are already up and working at 6:30.

Yeah but they can be up at 530 just as easily :P

That's my point. They don't care about the number on the clock, they follow the sun. They will do that no matter the number.

A maple MAGA guy was explaining earnestly how much he is concerned that Carney will ruin the economy in Canada just like he ruined the economy in the UK.  When I asked how he ruined the economy in the UK he looked at me for a few seconds searching for an answer and the he said, "with his economic policies". So I asked the next question but unfortunately he said he needed to do more research to get the details to me but he was sure he was right. So I will have to wait for those insights.

Most people have no idea what idea what a Premier does compared to a Prime Minister and where provinces got their historical funding for things like superior education, healthcare and housing.  You ask people in a vox pop who's the Minister of culture and half are likely to answer Celine Dion.

So, when you get into the very specifics of answering what a Central Bank governor does, 90% of the population has no idea and will just spout whatever their favorite party leader or guru will say (see crypto types).

The irony about that is that central bankers are truly using information based decision making.  Best decision based on best information at a given point in time.  Political opinions are mostly based on ideological bullshit imo.  And yet some people just can't help mixing up the two.
