Property tax, gas tax, lots of use fees and the like.

No income tax doesn't necessarily mean low taxes. It just means low taxes for people with huge salaries. Poor people will bear the brunt of the taxes.

But that works great for professional hockey players.

And Washington, a blue state, also has no income tax. So maybe a bright future for the Kraken.

These types of cases shine an ugly light into hockey team culture regardless of the outcome.  Who does that exactly... inviting friends over to a freak off with your gf.  That's really messed up to begin with, but not necessarily a criminal offence of course.

Hockey Canada did not act properly by having some victims compensation fund for this and paying her off to keep the story secret.  And a so-so police investigation.

All of this saga could have been avoided by a proper police investigation the first time, with video surveillance investigated by the London police and Hockey Canada, something that was not apparently done the first time.

How did the cops fail in this scenario. The officer who investigated did not think there was sufficient evidence to proceed.  Turns out he was correct.

Ah I see,  I dont pay a ton of attention to the details in these kinds of cases I just find the whole prospect murky and distasteful... because

A) you don't know for sure who's telling the truth
B) you don't want to invalidate the victim even if you suspect it's not the truth
C) you don't want to ruin someone's career if it's baseless
D) even if legal it's still not something I'd ever want to be associated with
