Quote from: Duque de Bragança on June 03, 2026, 07:38:29 AMHow do you Canadians feel about 4th place in the World Cup?   :uffda:  :outback:  :osama:
Most people really don't care about this tournament over here.

Most of the top NHL players aren't usually going as it's during the playoffs.

QuoteSo they show up once their team is out of the play-offs?  :P

QuoteWhich is exactly why the tournament is not watched here. Why would someone watch a tournament that features the players that were not good enough to continue on in the NHL playoffs?
Because they're following a national squad, not a NHL "franchise"? I have seen it the only IIHF championship I attended, back in 2027, over here and in Cologne. Not just B-Squad players.

QuoteIt would be like watching a lower league soccer game.

Has its charms, of a different kind, admittedly.[/quote]

But I think the point you're missing is it's our B squad.

It's basically recreational league hockey for us.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

Some do, most don't.
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

It'd be like Farense players representing portugal in the world cup :P

Farense had players in the World Cup, they weren't Portuguese that's all.  :P
48-squad World Cup now remember.
64 for Saudi Arabia, if Gianni gets his way.  :D

P-S: Torreense, the Portuguese Cup winner, playing in the second division now (failed play-off to first division) has a player in the World Cup.

He means only Farense players representing Portugal in the WC.

 :secret:
That's the joke.
Cape Verde people are sometimes called 'Black' Portuguese.

Stopira, the pllayer in question has two nationalities but plays for Cape Verde.
Interestingly enough, he is also Hungarian, naturalised.  :P

I just picked them because they're the only team I know in the second division

But anyway, that why Canadians don't care. They're lesser players (from all counties really) playing while the good players play in the cup. So those inclined to watch a tournament watch the Playoffs.

Canada totally cares when we win. We only don't care when we don't win.

We care in the sense of oh look, even our lesser players can win the tournament

Yeah, it's not a "wooo we won" it's more of a "haha, we won" type deal.
