I thought Deep Impact was about as entertaining as Armageddon.

Deep Impact veered into soap opera territory, but Armaggedon was just stupid.

It was stupid, but it was sort self-consciously so. Deep Impact was really grating in trying to take itself so seriously.

Jupiter Ascending was kind of crap, so the gal and I watched Flash Gordon to make ourselves feel better.  It worked.

Is it so crap than 5€ plus a hour or so for the return trip is wasted money and time?
I'm no Wachowski brothers fan but once in a while I can indulge.

It's kind of fun in how excessive it can be at times--Redmayne is doing his best to single-handedly save the film--but it's too serious, too repetitive, too long.  The big problems are the far too great amount of time spent on Earth, the stultifying visuals that oscillate between legitimately space fantasy awesome and dully incomprehensible, and a tonally goofy Space Bureaucracy montage that is the most embarrassingly terrible thing in context.

I'll go to the next Flash Gordon screening at the Cinémathèque.

I'd give a lot of money to see Flash Gordon on the big screen.
