Watched "Out of Gas" on sfdebris. Seriously, Firefly was some of the best TV ever made. It rivals Laura Petrie opening the inflatable boat or the weeping angels on "blink". It's just good.
"Stability is destabilizing." --Hyman Minsky

"Complacency can be a self-denying prophecy."
"We have nothing to fear but lack of fear itself." --Larry Summers

Watched Season 1 of The 100. Rather fun.
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Not as fun, but still better than it ought to be.
A Face in the Crowd. The darker side of Andy Griffith.
The Interview. And I didn't have to pay six bucks(or pirate it either). Silly movie.
The Croods. Had its moments.

It gets better in Season 2.  Well worth watching imo.

Every time I see a Darth Wagtaros post I think I have gotten drunk again and gone on a random bout of posting of which I can't remember a thing.

You really should stop bumping so many threads from several years ago, Cel.  ;)

I am merely pointing out that what was once a brave and poignant movement--in addressing a bona fide epidemic during an era of abject discrimination, cruel stigma and political indifference that was taking thousands of lives unnecessarily every year--has appeared to have been cast aside in modern television and film portrayals of homosexual relationships, and that all the hard-earned and costly gains in the education and promotion of healthy, safe sex practices despite popular and institutional homophobia have been lost.
Honestly I'm not sure the Larry Kramer approach is worth mourning.

One of the things I found a little sad about Dallas Buyers Club is that there wasn't a single mention of condoms. The sexuality of that character - which is was so important - is just sacrificed except for when he finds one hot girl with HIV. It was a shame.

Aside from that I agree with Garbo.

Meh...you guys are from a younger generation, and fortunately standing on the Kaposi's sarcoma lesions of those that walked before you.  So I suppose there's that victory for the movement.

I mean, you would have us be nuns in the face of a disease, that while terrible, doesn't have to be a death sentence for gay men in the West.

And at the same time, you also deny that we are having safer sex than was had in the 70s. Condoms are deeply embedded in gay culture despite what you might see in news reports about bugchasers.

Apocryphal reports about bugchasers too.

I am merely addressing "modern television and film portrayals of homosexual relationships", not the reality of whatever's going on;  I really have no idea what you people are up to anymore, other than no longer Unleashing Power.

garbon

I don't see a lot of portrayals that involve condomless sex.

Martinus

I don't think I have seen a portrayal of gay sex without condoms as something normal in tv at all. Except when it is to serve as a cautionary tale.

CdM is just bitter because he is not getting any and he hasn't got enough cash to pay for sex without it seeming like hiring a hooker. He is a heterosexual grallon with cats. :P
