Dallas Buyers Club.

Well made film that doesn't overstay it's welcome. I think generally it gets the tone just right, though I'm not sure how in control the film-maker was (was the rodeo/bareback analogy deliberate? I think I'd view the ending differently if I could work that out). Great performances by McConaughey and Leto, also really nice to see Jennifer Garner doing well because I've seen her in some awful crap.

Man, X-Men: First Class is way better on a rewatch, when you're expecting the often-shitty VFX and (far more rarely) the leaden lines.  Fassbender and McAvoy.

Also possibly the best prequel ever made?  Definitely the best I can think of off the top of my head.

It's one of my favorite superhero films; easily the best X-Men film for me too.

As for the best prequel ever... besides Godfather II, I'd say Casino Royale and Temple of Doom are ahead of it too.

I forgot about Temple of Doom, but I kind of don't count it since it never really purports to "tell the untold story" or anything, and doesn't insist upon its timeframe at all.

Casino Royale is a reboot.
