Considering it is one of the most common devices in storytelling (especially between seasons/instalments of the story), please explain why this is not a good sign.

Exactly, overused.  Too often it is used to jump forwards over parts of the story that would be dull or corners that the writers got themselves into.

But if you want to keep the story realistic, you have to acknowledge that some parts may be dull so why don't skip ahead instead of insisting on a "every day brings new adventure" fallacy.

Oh I mean I should have admitted that I don't mind the whole skip a day or a summer bit.  I guess I'm really taking issue with instances where you skip forwards but then proceed to summarize everything that happened in the intervening period.  It seems to me that, that often happens because things were getting bogged down and it was easier to just "reboot" by flying into the future.

Hobbit to LOTR was an unnecessary jump.

My problem with True Blood is that it strayed from its interesting premise. I loved the first season and the whole Vampires Coming out of the Coffin bit. But now it seems as though everyone in Bon Temps is something or another...you have vampires and shapeshifters and werewolves and fairies and witches and those-strange-things-from-season-two.
Now anything goes.

I started teasing my wife as soon as weretigers showed up in the books.  I would call them her Dungeons and Dragons books.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

****Spoiler****

When they had the girlfriend discover that Tara had been faking her identity, they set it up perfectly that she has nowhere to go but stay in Bon Temps.

Unfortunately, those don't seem to be rarer than fairies on True Blood. :(

That is a bit annoying. I don't mind having some extra supernaturals about, the shapeshifters were few in number, the goddess was also quite a one off, the fairies explain Sukie. The were stuff I dislike though, find it hard to believe they could all stay hidden.

But thats not what gets me about True Blood. What gets me about it is that it has just plain gone crap. It doesn't grab me the way it once did. Its all just....bleh.

Just a gut feeling then?

Saw The Social Network last night.  Sean Parker (Napster dude) was definitely the hero of that story.  Dude scores 7% of Facebook for supplying pussy.

I liked the line: I'm 6'5", I weigh 220, and there's two of me.

Ironclad, sadly has nothing to do with actual "Ironclads". In fact there isn't much iron (or irony) in this flick at all. If you are a BIG D&D nerd it will have a bit of eye candy for you but the dialogue is straight outta Monte Cook land. also Paul Giamatti as King John? really? he doesn't even attempt the accent, he just gets to scream a lot. Apparently everyone in the 13th century was a complete cunt. Not one character really has any charisma in this movie, I know, I know, dump stat. but it is a movie... sigh.
