Good God - just found a show on Amazon Prime. It's a British procedural (ITV would be my guess :hmm:) about a priest who investigates candidates for sainthood and, on the side, exorcises demons.

I feel very targeted by the algorithm

Your post is missing a key piece of information

Apparitions - starring Martin Shaw from Judge John Deed! (another trashy procedural I wouldn't recommend to Zoupa )

Edit: "Would you negotiate with a terrorist who can read your mind?" God this show is trash

The kids really want to see Venom: Let there be Carnage.  My youngest is just turning 8.

I see it's rated PG-13, which is what most superhero movies are rated, and I'm fine with the kids watching those.  But from the bits I've seen Venom 2 seems a fair bit scarier and gorier than the typical MCU.  We so far don't let the kids see R-rated movies.

Anyone who has seen it have any thoughts?

Your kids are going to see all kinds of things on the internet.  Best to let them see something like this with you and then talk about it after the show.

I agree with the sentiment, but they may not have unfettered access to the internet yet. My son is turning 8 soon, and he most definitely doesn't have access to the internet yet.

Sure, but we are talking about a superhero movie here.  If the kids are scared by it then it is a good time to talk about things not being real etc.

When you're a kid (heck even an adult) you can find something scary while still knowing it isn't real.

This is the trailer for the movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FmWuCgJmxo

It looks a fair bit grosser / scarier than a typical superhero movie.

I should note though that my kids have already seen the trailer, which is what makes them want to watch the movie.

It's not that I want to shelter the kids - it's that I want to avoid any nightmares.

Yeah it's a 15 in the UK and one of the main characters is a serial killer which might be a bit intense?

being scared by a movie is part of the reason people go to see scary movies  :P

You are the best judge of whether your kids will have nightmares.  If you are worried go see the movie without your kids, then make up your mind about the probable impact.  It is pretty hard for one of us to make that judgment for you.  The impact may also vary across your boys.  Our youngest was unfazed by pretty much anything while our oldest ducked behind the movie theatre seats when he watched Monsters Inc. as a child  :D

I don't feel like shelling out $20 to see a movie I have no interest in seeing.

Which is why I asked people who HAD seen the movie if they had any thoughts.

Why you then chimed is is beyond me.

The Brain

No One Gets Out Alive. Young woman gets a cheap room in an old house, and starts seeing things. Pretty good, I liked it. The chick is cute.

No, it isn't!

Nice try to save that $20, but it looks like you'll ned to see it if https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7097896/parentalguide isn't helpful.

Frankly, it sounds to me like something beyond what a third-grader could easily handle.

You are right.  Next time you ask for people to make a judgment about how you should raise your kids, I won't state the obvious.

Imho, 8 years old is a little too young for Venom.  10 would be my absolute minimum.  My oldest nephew is of that age and I wouldn't bring it there if he asked me.
But it's me.  And I ain't the parent.  And he didn't ask.  Your kids have asked you to see it after seeing the trailer.  If you tell one he's too young, the other one will still want to see it...

It's not connected to the MCU, it's released by Sony.  The first one had apparently been heavily censored, the second one less so.  It's not gruesome like your average horror flick, but still, while PG13 may be just a suggestion, I'd stick closer to this age rating for this one.  Disney rates their MCU movies PG13 because they are extremely conservative.

It's the Black Widow's costume, mostly. :P

No, seriously, movies like the Avengers could be 8+ easily.  Disney wants to stick on the very safe side, that's all.  It's not a good indication of how other PG13 will be.

I'm trying to decide when my boy is going to see the Lord of the Rings films. Not yet, is our decision. We're reading the books, though.

Personally, the things I remember kind of traumatizing me as a kid were not an issue because I thought they were real, but because of the mental images and emotions certain scenes evoked.
