Ridley Scott started out extremely strong, but after the early 80s he's been meh.
What the hell?

Gladiator wasn't good.
Women want me. Men want to be with me.

The problem with Scott is that he became famous enough to have control over the script, and he's shown not to have the best eye for that...  He still produces great visuals though.

Blasphemy!
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote the script for The Last Duel.

Also, Scott directed The Martian and that movie was awesome!

Gladiator was okay. An effective Hollywood blockbuster, but nothing more than that. I think people don't realize how much Crowe's larger than life performance elevates the movie. Take him away, and there isn't much to chew on, besides some action scenes.

I liked Kingdom of Heaven more (the extended cut).

Well, Joaquin Phoenix was having fun chewing scenery, too. But yeah, agreed.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Crash was the only bad movie of those.

Crash teaches that we are all a little bit racist / racism comes out in high pressure circumstances
Argo brought us Affleck racing to get diplomats out of Tehran
Green Book (which I avoided) appears to have given a redemption story to a racist through use of a black friend

Should it be irredeemable?
