Army of the Dead trailer looks fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI1JGPhYBS8

Heard it described as a zombie movie with Fallout New Vegas and Ocean's Eleven vibes.

Seems like a fun idea, Snyder though?

Well, his Justice League was good.

Also watched the pilot episode of The Nevers. It's X-Men (well, X-Women) in steampunk low fantasy Victorian London, with a murder mystery and a bunch of subplots. Episode left me wanting more, definitely going to follow this one.

Watching "Five Came Back", a Netflix documentary about five big name Hollywood directors who sign up with the US armed forces to make propaganda films during WW2, with commentary by big name modern directors like Spielberg and Del Toro. Seen the first of three episodes, and it's pretty interesting so far - I would have thought right up the alley for many Languishites.

Interestingly, they also have a reference set of the actual films that were shot, which you can also see. I watched the one about the Nazi slave and death camps, and what struck me was how it was introduced - with a pair of legal affidavits certifying that the images recorded were real and not faked (it was clearly a more credulous time, nowadays having an affidavit like that would just make everyone think even more that it was faked). Evidently, the death camps were so disturbingly weird that the government film makers felt that they may not be credited as real.

I'm usually skeptical about Hollywood movies about Hollywood; but that does look interesting.  I'll have to give that a go.

I had read that during the First World War the various propaganda departments had made up stories about using human beings to make soap or buttons; and so for a long time the rumors of the Nazis doing the same weren't widely believed.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

Watching IMDB, I stumble on this trailer:

Been released in Denmark in november 2020, Canada relase for May 21st.  I hope there is a good dubbing by the time of release, I don't like subtitles.

Due to the pandemic they moved it so isn't released until May 6th here. I'm looking forward to it as it's the same team who did Adam's Apples and Flickering Lights.

Anyone watch Exterminate All The Brutes on HBO.

I dunno what to make of it. I kind of liked it. It's basically a deconstruction of western colonization from the point of view, primarily of the blacks, although it necessarily focuses on the native americans, and to a lesser extent the Holocaust. It's central theme is that western civiliazation practised genocide wherever it went. It was interesting enought that I watched it all, but I thought at times it was heavy propaganda.

Thoughts?

Not sure I'd agree with the statement about western civilization committing genocide everywhere.  Between all colonisation is genocide and all colonisation was good for the natives, there's a difference.  Also, Western civ ain't the only one who colonised and displaced local groups throughout history.  Unless China, Russia and the Arabs are considered western nations.

But I haven't seen the movie yet.  One day.

It's not a movie, it's a four part series. And yes, like I said, I found it's a bit of a propaganda piece as well.

The Punisher (2004)

I take back anything bad I may have said about the Dolph Lundgren version of this film.  As compared to this version, Dolph's version is a Laurence Olivier Shakespearean tragedy brought to the big screen (though with a somewhat lower body count.)

There are many problems with this one.  The actions scenes are dull, (other than the one where he kills a man with a paper slicer, that seems to come straight from Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Commando"), and you never think for a moment that The Bad Guys are going to kill The Punisher.  There are many times where the plot doesn't make sense; why does The Punisher reveal to the police that he's still alive? and once the bodies start piling up where are the police?  The worst though, is that the film goes into light rom-com territory.  The Punisher moves into an apartment next door to a couple quirky neighbors and a fragile, yet resilient, single woman who sees through The Punisher's tough exterior to the vulnerable man within.  That really doesn't work in a nihilistic revenge movie.

Mortal Kombat. Actually pretty good. It has the fatalities and the callbacks you'd expect. The cole character is a little odd.
could have used an actual character like Johnny cage. Plus he has literal plot armour.
