I've watched the first season of Casa del Papel (Money Heist). Since my understanding of spanish isn't good enough to watch this in original spanish, I watched it dubbed. Dubs are available in both language I understand fluently.

I watched the first half with the english dub - wow, Tyr wasn't kidding when he said Brits can't do dubs for shits. It was actually bringing the show down with how bad it was.
The 2nd half I watched with the french dub - while it is, as usual for Netflix, too France french not enough international french it was leagues ahead in quality. The experience of the dubbers compare to the english dubbers really shows. It is a much better show that way.

The actress doing Tokyo's voice over also does Disney's Zendaya voice. It still hasn't squared entirely with me.

For both language the subtitles are really bad & don't fit the spoken text. However, that usually happens since Netflix subtitles are translation of the original subtitles instead of written out the dubs.
Colonel Caliga is Awesome.

Duque de Bragança

Dubtitles are crap, but less than dubbing.

Hispanic shows such as telenovelas, so not the same kind of shows as Casa de Paper, have been consistently among the worst dubbed in France and elsewhere (mexican/venezuelan/argentine telenovelas dubbed by Brazilians is legendary!).

Shit.  I read that as Ma. as in Massachusetts. I thought this was like a news story.

I've never actually tried the English dub of that. Checking it now... it sounds American. Googling a few dub actor names they are that.
Its Americans who can't dub for shit. The added Americanness is often a huge immersion breaker :contract:

What's wrong with just sticking with the original with subs?

No, but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be Ripped from the News or something.

I forgot to mention last week that several of the Universal classic monster movies have been made freely available in Youtube for anyone to watch for a limited amount of time. In case you want to give them a shot, the following are available here: https://www.youtube.com/c/FearTheHomeOfHorror/videos

- Dracula (1931)
- Frankenstein (1931)
- The Mummy (1932)
- The Invisible Man (1933)
- The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
- The Wolfman (1941)
- Abbot & Costello meet Frankenstein (1948).

They're all fairly short, most are only around 70 minutes long, and they'll only be available for a few more days, so give them a shot while you can. I'm trying to watch at least one per day this week.

Yeah, I've already watched a few of them and they deserve to be watched even nowadays due to their massive impact. They're incredibly dated, though, and although they set in stone much of the cultural impact of these monsters and their visual representation, watching them does need some effort. There are some oddities in the films from the traditional image of the monsters, though. For instance, Dracula never shows fangs (although the holes in the neck are mentioned, the fangs are never shown), and the mummy is only wrapped in bandages at the very beginning of the film, once it is reanimated it appears during the rest of the film as a regular person. Also, the highest bodycount by far belongs to Frankenstein's monster, out of the flms I've seen.

NCIS: Los Angeles.

Alien Weaponry and Quiet Riot in the same episode, without feeling anachronistic.  I'm impressed :P  - mostly about Alien Weaponry.  These Kiwi guys are sure conquering the known world with their traditional/folk metal :)

For those not blessed with the knowledge of all things metal :P , here is the clip:

'Seven' (1995) - don't usually like homicide/ serial killer stories, but it was excellent.
Wonder why I've not heard of it or come across it before?
