So you watch superhero films for thrilling drama and character work?

I don't know why I watch them. I usually only do that when I have exhausted all other sources of entertainment. The Marvel movies I watched whilst sitting up at night feeding our newly born daughter. And then at times like these, when I'm at home sick. This time we bought a month of Netflix and Aquaman was on it. We usually get a free month every two years or so of most services, so we can catch up.

I watched Warrior Nun before Aquaman. Man, that was a weird show. Still, it entertained me when I was out on the couch.

Thinking about it the action scenes in superhero movies have lots in common with porn, it's just monotone action going on for too long and no-one seems to enjoy it very much and most of it is exposition.

Aquaman.

Now, I've mostly preferred DC movies to Marvel, this one felt more Marvel and it's also the most successful DC movie.

My movie experience of super hero movies mostly consists of me sitting and wondering why I watch this crap and I try to hide it from the wife since it feels so childish. [spoiler]She doesn't care one iota, but I feel silly.[/spoiler] I mostly do it in the anti-porn way, that's to say I skip the action parts. If I want to see silly pixels fighting in a silly inconsistent way I'd rather play a game.

So yeah, I guess this was good in comparison with other super hero movies. It was fun seeing a de-aged Julian Sands as the main baddie. [spoiler]I had to go check to see that it was someone else.[/spoiler]

No mention of Dolph Lundgren? He was one of the only reasons, if not the only one, to watch that movie. Not much of a part, unlike the Punisher adaptation he starred 30 years ago or so.

I've checked out of most of Marvel movies halfway in (there's some I've enjoyed mind). They found their formula and they repeat it over and over and over.

Well, his acting was on par with crazy readhead girl and he was very much under-used.

I still need to catch up on Marvel post-Ultron. That movie rather lost me (I really enjoyed them up till then). It was just too crammed full of stuff, with some things that didn't make sense to me (but which were apparently explained in TV shows), so I was left quite underwhelmed.

I watched Ultron and I can't honestly recall most of it. It was just noise.

Infinity War is one of my favorite Marvels though (the other one being Winter Soldier), it's worth watching. The sequel was, otoh, rather weak in particular if you aren't a huge fan (since most of the film is just callbacks to other Marvel films).

Ragnarok is also a must see, given it's Waititi.

I went back to look at what DC or Marvel movies I really liked.

Batman Begins - Dark and gritty realistic-ish reboot of Batman, it flew entirely under my radar until I was bored on Pirate bay one day. Great promise for the sequels, too bad they sucked ass.

Guardians of the Galaxy - Humorous and not very serious sci-fi movie with a great cast.

So, 1-1 I guess.

Post Ultron I'd say these are worth watching, in order of descending quality:

Thor: Ragnarok
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse (not technically part of the MCU but too good not to watch)
Avengers: Infinity War
Black Panther
Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2
Avengers: Endgame
Dr. Strange (borderline but redeemed by a pretty good ending)

Haven't seen the Spider-Man movies or Captain Marvel.

Skip Spiderman and watch Captain Marvel. She's much better in it than in her scenes in End Game
