My memory is he just does his accent but I could be wrong

i share sheilbh's memory, that he just sound scottish... but angrier. much like his highlander role where he's a Spaniard with a Scottish accent, but a carefree Scott.

I was just watching a couple of clips.  I definitely agree he mostly sounds scottish, but it does sound like he's trying to do something with his accent.

Connery's character is Lithuanian. Luckily they sound Scottish.

Squid Game. Pretty messed up.

i watched it too. can't decide if i like it. [spoiler] i did guess right that the old man was involved some how, he just seemed too out of place [/spoiler]

I really liked the blunt social commentary and character development. [spoiler]but I think it would have been better to end it with the one season.   Not sure where they go from here.  I thought it would have been better if the brother had been the host - he was after all a multimillionaire and no longer had to work.  Why he bothered running the thing was never explained.[/spoiler]

Its funny that this in this alternative near-future most people seem to speak French.

You think it realistic a European space mission would be French speaking and that an American mission would conveniently have 3 French speakers?

In a French series, yes. Not so many Anglo actors available. Plus, a European space mission can't rely only on the residual Anglophones (Irish). It's post-Brexit, remember.

Although Harrison Ford's Russian accent in K-19 was even worse!

They start in Russian and then casually segue into English - so we were exposed to Connery's really bad fake Russian. Tragically Russians were exposed to Connery's, what I can only imagine was even worse, actual Russian

Segue into English was better handled IMO in a movie by the same director, the 13th Warrior.

A great scene in a not great movie.

That movie had a troubled story, could have been much better but I still like it.

The dude running it is Swiss. I don't think Britain need be excluded :p
It strikes me realistically even excluding Brits (one of the main Americans is obviously British.) and having no native anglophones on the ship they'd be chatting in English.

But yes. It being a French series is the reason why. Just funny to take it seriously.

A Classic Horror Story. In the vein of The Ritual and Midsommar. Not essential viewing, it's kind of hamfisted and doesn't maintain energy. But the chicks are hot.

I often get the feeling when I watch movies that the moviemakers haven't thought through what the purpose is of each scene, and if it actually does its job efficiently and effectively. A movie is like a dogfight, you must maintain energy and every move must have a purpose. Some moviemakers seem to think "OK in this scene this and this will happen". NO! What happens is just a means to an end, you must keep your eyes on the purpose of the scene.

But, Money!

[spoiler]Yeah, I especially liked how everyone freaked out when they realized what the game was, voted to end it (with the old guy casting the deciding vote) and then most everyone decided to come back when they realized just how shit their debt burdened lives were.  The old guy had seen it all before and so knew it would be better for them to come back with full knowledge of what they were getting into.  It was a great analogy for the poor selling themselves into slavery[/spoiler]
