I had absolutely no idea that the dude from What We Do In The Shadows was directing Thor Ragnarok. Although Marvel films - despite its competency - have so little individual personality that I doubt it will translate meaningfully.

It's made me curious about it nonetheless.

"Fail Safe"

The film had a lot that was very good...but just enough bad to keep it from being great.

"Battle Circus"

Meh Korean War (focusing on the MASH) flick a with a relatively weak Bogart performance (though maybe hemmed in with a weak screenplay).  The lead NCO (no bias, I swear!) is the film is probably the best character.

Also, if you're going to use stock footage to depict an air raid, might be best not to use one where the US markings (there were no indications that it was supposed to be friendly fire) on the planes is so obvious.  :P

It has B-58's. That's enough for a B.

"there's a long tradition of insulting people we disagree with here, and I'll be damned if I listen to your entreaties otherwise."-OVB

"Obviously not a Berkut-commanded armored column.  They're not all brewing."- CdM

A "very good" but not "great" is enough to rile the mob?

The weak points:

- Overacting on the colonel who breaks down.
- Extreme over acting by the bomber pilot's wife trying to talk him down.
- I know a film like this cannot have a happy ending...but something about it didn't feel satisfying (not to mention just some of the film techniques used to depict nuking NYC, as that can just be said to be the film technique of the time).  To contrast with a comparable movie...the ending of "By Dawn's Early Light" was a much more satisfying one, while still not being a happy one. (and to be clear, no, I do not think BDEL is a better overall movie in comparison).

Walter Matthau slapping a cocktail party ho pushes it to an A.

I may be misunderstood...I'd still give in an easy "A".  Just not an "A+".

I watched the Right Stuff up to the scene when the Reds launch Sputnik.

GET THAT MORON OFF THE SCREEN

Will finish it when I have the time.

I bet you're the kind of prick that saw Casablanca and said, "Meh, it's full of cliches."

Tonitrus

I haven't watched Casablanca in a good 10-15 years.  Need to dial that one up again. :P
