Hygiene is most usefully defined as keeping clean.  One keeps clean to avoid disease.  Circumcision remains a hygiene issue.

If you're going to coerce infants into giving up their foreskins in order to prevent the spread of HIV and other disease, why not tackle the actual problem: carriers of disease.  Institute compulsory screenings and organize a national, Internet-accessible database, perhaps with dynamically rotating ID numbers if privacy is a concern.  Further, make it a crime for people who have a potentially deadly disease to have sex without disclosing their status, or create a law that explicitly allows for civil recovery for damages in such cases, or both.

If this all seems very extreme, it's because it is--but I would dare say a bit less extreme than advocating the hacking off of parts of millions of babies' dicks, and probably a damn sight more likely to actually work to stem infection rates.

Well, if there are circumcised women here, I'd be interested to hear about it.   But the likelihood of it is low.

I think a poll for preference would be interesting, too, even if there really aren't enough hags and fags to make a significant sample for either group.

Not so, studies have shown circumcision cuts the rate of heterosexual transmission of AIDS in half.
