My GF's mam flew in from Switzerland via Amsterdam the other day.
She noted the airport here and in Switzerland was pretty easy. In Amsterdam on the other hand security was super tight and she had her passport checked 4 times.
Related I wonder?
Makes me question whether making the journey myself via Amsterdam is wise.

So the Netherlands has a R value of greater 2 right now. WTF.

Spain peaked at 1.7 in early july but some regions (like Catalonia) went above 3.

*big image showing republican states are full of dumb people*

Are there more unvaccinated Trump voters or Biden voters? I had the impression that it is a slam dunk and obvious - got to be the former. And I would guess it probably is the case. Though it could also be like those maps before Trump that showed poor states vote republican and rich states democrat: even though better off people voted republican and poorer people democrat.

Black and hispanics are significantly less likely to be vaccinated than whites: whites have vaccination rates about 50% more than blacks. Also old people have really good vaccination rates and young people poor; the former skewing republican and the latter democrat.

Michelle Obama was doing ads to get vaccinated and I've heard: "boy that is dumb, they should get Dale Earnhardt Jr. to appeal to the vaccine hesitant, MAGA nation won't listen to her" but it isn't that simple.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Dale Jr. is an openly closeted liberal, I doubt that his fans will care about what he has to say on political matters.

DeSantis sells 'Don't Fauci My Florida' merch as new coronavirus cases near highest in nation

"Don't Fauci My Florida," read drink koozies and T-shirts that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis's preliminary campaign team rolled out just as his state sees some of the highest coronavirus hospitalizations, new infections and deaths per capita in the country. It's the latest example of Republicans running on their opposition to virus-fueled shutdowns and mask mandates. A pandemic hero to some and villain to others, Fauci has become a high-profile target.
(...)
While the campaign has yet to officially launch, its "Team DeSantis" Twitter account announced the new merchandise Monday. The Fauci items are listed alongside "Keep Florida Free" hats and red koozies that take aim at face coverings with a DeSantis quote: "How the hell am I going to be able to drink a beer with a mask on?"

Fauci did not respond to a request for comment.

New coronavirus infection numbers plummeted in Florida after vaccinations became widely available, but they have ticked up in recent weeks. The state is reporting daily cases close to four times the national average — 26 new infections per 100,000 residents, the second-highest number in the country. The state's latest covid-19 death rate is almost double the national figure, and it ranks fourth for current hospitalizations.
(...)
DeSantis avoided statewide mask requirements even as leaders across the political spectrum embraced them amid growing evidence of their effectiveness. This spring, he suspended all virus-based local rules for businesses and individuals.

The governor has encouraged people to get vaccinated but also banned businesses from requiring proof of vaccination, arguing that such measures are a form of discrimination against people who refuse vaccines for medical or religious reasons. He also successfully sued the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to keep it from enforcing its coronavirus rules on cruise ships in Florida, a major part of the state's tourism industry.

Florida GOP executive director Helen Aguirre Ferré, who said she has been taking media inquiries for the DeSantis team, told The Post in an email that while "we are making light of Fauci, his policies were flawed and devastating to many."

"Governor DeSantis has seen to it that Florida is an oasis of freedom, and we'll be darned if we let federal bureaucrats and absurd government overreach mess with that," she said. She also noted that daily reported covid-19 deaths have recently been at their lowest average since spring of 2020.

With the new merchandise, DeSantis is trying to cash in on a growing conservative backlash toward Fauci, a longtime government scientist who has advised seven presidents and directs the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

QuoteThe number of people in hospital with coronavirus could reach "quite scary" levels within weeks, Chris Whitty has said.

In an online event on Thursday evening, the chief medical officer said England's coronavirus crisis could return again surprisingly quickly and the country is "not yet out of the woods".

Somebody should tell him that's in stark contrast with the government's stance and plans.
They need to release those projections so people can be informed <_<

I guess their targeting is aimed at those who haven't gotten around to it yet and are merely hesitant, they want to do the right thing but have heard some stories.

Those who are outright hostile are a right off.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

If the biggest problem now is anti-vaxxers getting fucked, then frankly that's something I can live with.

Let's send those doses to the Third World.

Red counties are getting  hammered and it's their own fault.

I just hope the decent people in those places are able to get the vaccine even if there's a number of nutters, including in government, rejecting it.

The health secretary has tested positive and is self isolating. I'm a little worried at people who should know better hyping this because he was double vaxxed - but they're not magic and he has only got mild symptoms. He said that he felt a little groggy (which isn't one of the official symptoms here) so did a LFT and got a negative result. He then got pinged and has taken a PCR which came back positive. So he's now self-isolating.

More hilariously before he got pinged he had a meeting with Johnson, so Johnson will now get pinged and also have to self-isolate

I'm still really not convinced that lifting capacity restrictions on indoor venues is a great idea (though I keep getting emails from theatres, venues, cinemas etc) saying they're going back to full capacity now (but with masks).

Yeah we're now observing the same here. Fully vaccinated people getting infected but with nonexistent or very mild symptoms.

Yeah, that's the thing... the low vaccine rate could be a combination of anti-vax nutters and people let down by poor infrastructure and access.

Josquius

I must say I find the France quarantine rules odd and interesting.
After all the fuss on delta its beta we have to look out for afterall.

Yeah I mean it's not like the vaccine prevents the virus from entering your body.
