Ok, I guess they derive the extra protection awared by antibodies by comparing relative infection numbers between both groups (haven't ran the math, though).

Thats how the trials have done it, so it makes sense.

Having said that - if I were French or Dutch I would be having an aneurysm about now because they seem very, very low and I'm not sure why.

I can help you for the French fiasco:

Macron's clique typical incompetence. They had months to prepare it and just finished working out the details now (hopefully).

Same here.

I blame Macron.

The BBC has a little bit more info on the study :

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55651518

"Of those who had no antibodies to the virus, suggesting they had never had it, 318 developed potential new infections within this timeframe, the tests indicated.
But among the 6,614 with antibodies, this figure was just 44."

That's 99.4% of people with antibodies not getting reinfected. I'm not sure how they measure that protection % though (i.e., not all 6,614 may have been exposed to the virus again).

From the article "Of those who had no antibodies to the virus, suggesting they may have never had it, 318 developed potential new infections within this timeframe" which is out of c14000 is about 2.3% so that rate, in a group with very similar background but not having had the virus, is several times higher than the one who have had it.
I wonder if such a calculation underestimates the relative protection of the previously infected.  If you had a bout of Covid already, you would probably be less cautious about exposing yourself to it, so the level of exposure between the two groups may not be the same per head.

Macron? Did France finally recover its low country departments? :w00t:

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

Following that map I can blame Macron, too.

Good God, that border gore.  Bismarck was a blessing upon Europe, too bad that WWI thing happened.

I feel like Denmark would have gone further along the Baltic coast.

Francfort-sur-le-Main

But really they basically already use the Polish flag.

Francfort-sur-le-Main

That's the standard French exonym. So is Ratisbonne (Ratisbona in other Romance languages).
Unlike, Charlesrepos (Karlsruhe), Sarreponts(Sarrebruck), Jumengarde (Stuttgart?) Foyer d'Homme (Mannheim).  :lmfao:

I like the Monaco di Baviera, official Italian exonym of Munich. I guess the few games between Monaco and Bayern in European cups must have been fun to comment in Italian.

It's been 8 days since the holidays finished over here, and restrictions were tightened in Catalonia (more or less the same for the rest of the country), but R number isn't falling, which is kinda depressing. Last November this very same set of restrictions (curfew, gyms/malls closed, can't leave town for nonessential stuff, bars closed except for lunch & breakfast) was pretty expedient in bringing it down. Next Monday it will be 10 days since new restrictions were enforced, which is the current quarantine period. If there are no results by then, it's likely pressure will mount to go back to something closer to what we did in Spring.

I don't think the new variant is prevalent enough to answer for this (we don't do much sequencing but we aren't picking it up in noticeable numbers yet), so dunno. I guess people are hitting a pandemic wall and compliance is woobly.
