I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

Maybe this isn't the 2nd wave but the major assault itself, what happened in the early Spring was just the meeting engagement when neither side knew each other's disposition, strengths and weaknesses.

I dunno - the first wave is where we had all the deaths.

I mean - people are still dieing but at nowhere near the same rate.

Damn it, I was going to make that reference.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

QuoteSpain invokes state of emergency to impose partial lockdown on Madrid
Spain's government invoked a state of emergency on Friday to impose a partial lockdown on Madrid, one of Europe's worst Covid-19 hotspots, after a court had struck down the measures.

The move escalates a standoff between prime minister Pedro Sanchez's socialist government and the conservative Madrid regional chief, who believes the curbs are illegal, excessive and disastrous for the local economy.

Following a health ministry order, Madrid authorities last week reluctantly barred all non-essential travel in and out of the city and other nearby towns.

The region had 723 coronavirus cases per 100,000 people in the two weeks to 8 October, according to the World Health Organization, making it Europe's second densest cluster after Andorra.

But instead of a blanket restriction, the Madrid region chief Isabel Diaz Ayuso wants tailored restrictions in different neighbourhoods according to local contagion levels.

A Madrid court sided with her on Thursday, effectively suspending the restrictions and prompting the government's response with an emergency order.

I found it both sad and hillarious how Ayuso wanted just to lock down districts with AI over 700, like everywhere else was like fine and dandy.

The central government has its own share of blame though, it should have stepped in sooner. The "let's see if you do better!" attitude after the previous state of emergency was lifted and health care reverted to the regions has been quite transparent.

Interesting:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/oct/08/more-than-80-positive-cases-in-covid-study-had-no-core-symptoms

ONS study which is a randomised survey (not testing people who have symptoms or are in high-risk areas) of 36,000 people between April and June found that over 85% of people who tested positive did not have the "core" symptoms (cough, fever, loss of taste/smell). Under 75% said they had any symptoms at all.

I think this summary is misleading.  They didn't have symptoms at the time they tested positive, but some did go on to develop symptoms.  The implication is that it's very hard to contain the infections because the disease is spread before spreaders have symptoms.

Sorry

That is a better summary and sort of confirms what we knew, but it still seems very high especially given that April-June was probably the peak here.

BB, you're sort of making two rather big assumptions there?

Aren't we still in uncharted territory regarding this pandemic?
