Quote from: Sheilbh on May 25, 2020, 01:45:24 PMApparently the reason people are angry is because of "false" information in the media - from his version v the stories in the Guardian/Mirror, I can't identify any falsehoods. He's just provided personal details/colour.

I'd say the reason people are angry is because of his (and his wife's) blatant flouting of lockdown restrictions because they felt they didn't apply to them in their situation.

I found the Carlists to be the most sympathetic part of the Francoist coalition.
Weird, I'd have had you done as more sympathetic to the technocrats than ultra-Catholic legitimists :P

Technocrats came later, from the late 50s onwards.

And I don't think they have much representation in contemporary Spanish far right.

They need a flag...  :hmm:

Quote from: Sheilbh on May 25, 2020, 01:45:24 PMThis is Cummings' version.

Cummings and his wife both got covid symptoms (never got tested), her first. He could forseee that if they both got they'd need someone to look after the kids. So he drove the family up to Durham, where his parents have property (three houses on the grounds plus some private woodland etc) and stayed in one of the spare properties where his nieces could provide childcare if needed. This was after lockdown when the government guidance was that if one person showed symptoms the entire household needed to self-isolate and stay at home.

Right. This wonderfully ties into all sorts of UK quirks regarding class/fair play, etc so I get the uproar.  :hmm:
Yep. We didn't even know the detail about him going for a family walk in woodland and, actually, my father owns the woodland so it was private property and absolutely fine! Needless to say I loved that detail

Interesting to note that for the second time senior cabinet ministers are now tweeting about how it's time to move on. Except for Priti Patel. Last time she re-tweeted someone else's defence, this time she's just re-tweeting some Thatcher content as if to show that she's online just not tweeting about Cummings

QuoteI'd say the reason people are angry is because of his (and his wife's) blatant flouting of lockdown restrictions because they felt they didn't apply to them in their situation.
As I say that was his version.

Noticed the Durham Miners Associations Facebook page posted a condemnation of Cummings. He is from Durham but not of Durham.
The comments section blew up with fascists pathetically trying to defend him.

I'm not sure that works as well when County Durham has 4 Tory MPs and 3 Labour :(

Modern County Durham. Traditional County Durham remains firmly labour despite the loss of the lumpen  infested fringe towns and the traditionally tory leaning rural areas.

In the latest twist, Cummings today mentioned the fact that he'd been thinking about pandemic preparedness as an issue for a long time and had even written about coronaviruses and SARS before. He had written a blog about pandemics before he joined government, around this time last year (https://dominiccummings.com/2019/03/04/the-most-secure-bio-labs-routinely-make-errors-that-could-cause-a-global-pandemic-are-about-to-re-start-experiments-on-pathogens-engineered-to-make-them-mammalian-airborne-transmissible/). But the specific references to coronaviruses was added in March this year and he added the reference to SARS on 14 April when he returned from Durham.

Extraordinary

He made a change to his blog which would take about 10 minutes to discover and then referenced it in a nationally televised press conference to point everyone to that blog

We have, at the very least, another day's worth of press coverage about this story
