Ohio is opening up restaurants, bars & salons (with restrictions, of course) starting May 15.  I'm sure it'll be fun trying to get a table at anyplace decent :D

It is Ohio so it is probably impossible to get a table at anyplace decent.  ;)

Someone needs to check in on Brazil and see if it's still there.

It's not pretty at all over there, and the government is not really helping. And everybody seems to agree that whatever data they have available (which is already not looking good) doesn't count some massive under-reporting for lack of means to carry out proper testing.

Some other South American countries are also struggling. We know about Ecuador, but for instance some parts of Perú (mostly in the interior) are also suffering a lot. There are reports that Iquitos, the largest city in their Amazonian province, has run out of oxigen for their hospitals and have to be supplied by plane from the capital. Apparently an oxigen cylinder costs one thousand dollars in the black market over there these days.

fromtia and PDH never even got their TrumpBux.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago.  It didn't last the 10 weeks Treasury said it was to last, but oh well...
I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

It's as if they don't know how much it costs to live in the United States.

Scenes today in Milan make me a little more doubtful that everyone'll be too scared and cautious to go out in numbers

We'll see in a day or two but I think this BAU drip-feeding info to the media as you mentioned might have been a grave error on behalf of the government. There will be a 3-day weekend with glorious weather, and days of talking about easing the lockdown.

So I can see a need to prepare people - but I think that's best done through transparency. But it's infuriating. Easter weekend - travel actually declined more than normal over a weekend because there were days of messaging from the government that it's not nice but people need to stick with it. We've not had that - instead there's been the usual Westminster overnight briefing, press overexcitement and a panicked attempt to row it back <_<

Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.

And no - risking your life on a 1 in 500 chance (and, by the way, the risk you get severely sick but don't die is much higher than that) just so you can go do fun recreational activities is not rational.

It isn't just about fun recreational activities...it is about doing stuff with friends...not staring at a fucking screen indoors while you rot away.
are you not allowed to practice gardening outside?  Ah, you don't have that concept of green roof or community gardening, I guess.

Walk, run? exercise in public park?  Tai-chi? Kung-fu? Meditation?

There's a lot of things to do beside roting while watching a fucking screen.
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

Hmmm have you read it?

Even this article has to grudgingly admit the point about not overwhelming health care - the purpose of flattening the curve.
