Yeah, when I wondered what an existential crisis would look like in my lifetime, I always imagined plenty of human-made destruction. This is what makes it so odd.

This is how the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper...

Also, I have a friend who believes this is the real world version of the alien invasion in Watchmen. Not in that it is a hoax, but in that it might change the social course and bring union in a moment when we were factionalizing more and more. There are threats that are much bigger than our squabbles.

Sadly, I think he's wrong. I think at some point "every man for himself" will quick in and it will get nasty.

We'll be out of the worst of it in 28 days.

What's the situation in Canada? I've not seen anyone here report any major lockdowns.

As Viper said, the Feds are letting the provinces make their own determinations.  Each province is doing it somewhat differently.

BC has had escalating restrictions for a few weeks now.  We are going to get a report today or tomorrow giving a projection of where are curve is.  BC has been doing a lot of testing so it is anticipated to have a high degree of confidence.  The preview is that our curve is not the same as Italy, but we are waiting to see how long the restrictions will likely be in place -  most are anticipating August.

New numbers today from BC - 659 cases, 14 deaths (most are from one old age care home), 64 in hospital ( 26 in ICU), 183 recovered.

I wonder why your number of recovered patients is so low - not enough early testing?

It's similar in the UK - I'm wondering if we're only really saying patients recover if they are hospitalised and then discharged rather than trying to measure people who test positive, but don't have a serious case?

Varies a little bit province by province.  We're not locked down like Italy or Spain are.  Almost all restaurants are closed or take out only.  Bars are closed.  No public gathering of more than 50 people.  Countless appeals to "practice social distancing".  Isolate 14 days if entering the country.  Schools are closed.  Rec centers are closed.
Posts here are my own private opinions.  I do not speak for my employer.

Illness can take up to 4 weeks to run its course. Too early to have any kind of significant # of recovered in places where the outbreak is starting later.

Zoupa

50 people?? That needs to change fast. In Qc it's zero public gathering. Exception made for same household.

From what I understand, we're not testing for that yet & almost no cases is over 14 days old.

UK is changing way data is released on deaths - but up 115 between 9 and 5 yesterday, which sounds really bad :(

It feels like that rapid increase in the curve stage is definitely here.

Edit: Might be getting tested in a few different ways  - researcher friend needs volunteers.
