Iowa has reported 19 cases so far.  14 of those are in the county I live in.  AFAICT they all came from the same Egyptian cruise ship.  No community transmission reported so far.

An anesthesiologist in a Salzburg hospital has tested positive for Covid19. He likely contracted while skiing in Tyrol. About 100 people who had contact with him will have to go into quarantine, including many doctors and nurses.

Breakdown is: 33 doctors, 53 nurses, 18 patients, a pilot, and 3 flying doctors. It affects other anesthesiologists, face/jaw surgeons, and ear/nose/throat specialists.

Cases like these were mentioned in the podcast with Germany's premier virologist, Christian Drosten. He said that in such cases they should just test these persons. The PCR tests are sensitive enough to catch the virus early in infection. Such a test takes half a day or so and then they would be cleared to go back to work. Repeat the next day if necessary. Losing so many healthcare professionals is not sustainable and the normal quarantine protocols should not apply.

The health minister said today that going forward all medical personnel will undergo routine testing to make sure this doesn't happen again.

That may be true in the countryside where people have gardens, but e.g. in most of Vienna staying home means staying inside.

Yes, speculating with my colleagues on this move last night. Restaurant was still half full. I got my shift cancelled today, and honestly not sure if I'll be going back to work anytime soon. I've no doubt the fed will rush to bail out waiters.

I have reserves to pay the mortgage and keep the lights on for three months, we will be eating beans and rice. Not so bad. For month four I've no idea.

That makes sense and I think, especially as I can finally leave the house after my injury, I will be taking a lot of walks.

Government's had a lot of criticism for its communications strategy, from tomorrow Johnson will be doing a daily press conference - hopefully with the two scientists. Which seems sensible - especially as advice is changing it's better if government's speaking to the press publicly so they can explain what's happening and why.

Heh. As I said a couple posts above, the"zero tolerance" for signs of respiratory sickness policy made no sense and closure was coming.

Now I just wonder why the hell I have to take the plague mobile (public transit) into work tomorrow when working from home is perfectly possible in my field. I guess that will be changing soon too however.
