This is puzzling.  Castro sent troops to Zaire to fight other Africans, not colonial overlords.

This is puzzling.  Castro sent troops to Zaire to fight other Africans, not colonial overlords.

I think - because this wasn't an in depth conversation - that it was not just about military intervention but also actions like sending doctors and nurses to Africa. But standing against Apartheid before that was fashionable in the West probably scores the man a few points from an African POV.

There's a distinct difference between liberal internationalism and socialist/proletarian internationalism;  and, as one is acknowledged as legitimate and the other is not, the results of Cuban internationalism really means that it never really existed in the first place.
