Two separate thoughts:

1) It seems like the best hope for the midterms is that the Democrats can get enough seats in the House of Representatives to act as a bit of a brake, though no real leader or strategy for that seems to have emerged (though maybe it's best for that to emerge after the election).

There's no real likelihood of a massive rebuke from the electorate such that Trump and his cronies would face actual impeachment and investigations for their corruption, is that right?

There's theoretically an outside chance that the Democrats could get a narrow majority in the Senate, but it's a stretch.

2) The Republicans are still looking for their Reichstag Fire moment IMO.

An astonishing proportion of the American electorate remains depoliticized. Nothing the Democrats have done so far convinces me they have taken the midterms seriously. People need to bypass that party, and organize locally.

If the Democrats win the House, they can start an impeachment inquiry that will allow them to request any documents they want and force sworn testimony from anyone relevant. That will be devastating to Trump and his cronies. I desperately want to see Jamie Raskin forcing Stephen Miller to Take the Fifth about 100 times.
