What does a TRUMP presidency look like?

Quote from: OttoVonBismarck on July 17, 2024, 03:56:40 PMThat's nonsensical. Trump is term limited and will be in his 80s at the end of his next term, he doesn't give a single fuck about the election that follows--Trump is not concerned at all with who is President when he no longer can be.

It would be entirely consistent with everything he has done in his life if he were positioning Neck Beard for the hereditary dictatorship.

If Trump wins this year, I guarantee he will run for a third term.

Sophie Scholl

"run". If he wins, the 2028 campaign will be a farce if it even exists.
"Everything that brought you here -- all the things that made you a prisoner of past sins -- they are gone. Forever and for good. So let the past go... and live."

"Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did."

I am far more worried about who will inherit the GOP after Trump. He himself won't make the effort to finish the Orbanist regime the far right has been building for him, but the heir may very well be more suited for that. Like this Vance fellow.

Vance is not that fellow. That fellow might exist, but I haven't seen him yet. Trump will be hard to replace.

Quote from: Valmy on July 17, 2024, 01:25:13 PMSo the purpose of the test has no bearing on what the test is designed to measure?
It has no bearing on dismissing correlations that exist, even if those correlations were not intended.  Just because you intend to achieve one goal doesn't mean that you can't achieve other goals as well, even if by accident.  Just because Viagra was designed to treat heart conditions doesn't mean that it can't possibly be the case that it can also make people get a stiffy when they normally can't get one.

QuoteI never claimed that "IQ just measures how good are at taking IQ tests". It is an important diagnostic tool used by psychologists to get people the help they need. And the only people taking IQ tests are ones going to psychologists or are taking part in some study. Surely that selects for a certain part of the population.
I was addressing a general sentiment, and didn't mean to be exclusive.  This isn't the first time this subject has been discussed on Languish, this statement was made often before and covers a lot of arguments of the form "it doesn't really measure intelligence".

QuoteBut you are a statistics guy. How can you look at the data being presented where the majority of the world population is in the bottom 15%? How likely is that data to be legit?
I haven't seen any data, but nothing about these sentences sounds unusual given just a little bit of general knowledge.  IQ scores are normalized on a certain population, which is never the world population.  If the population you normalized them on is higher than average, then it's very much possible for a lot more than 15% of people to be in the bottom 15% when you apply the test to a larger population.

The Minsky Moment

Crooks' laptop apparently gives no indication of a clear ideology.
He posted on Steam shortly before the attack that July 13 would be his "premiere"

His laptop showed evidence of searches: Trump, Biden, when is the DNC convention, and the July 13 Trump rally.

Does not appear to have been politically motivated; either candidate seems to have been of interest, with Trump presenting the first target of opporunity.

Randomized assassination attempt.  Edgy.

The mass shootings in the United States rarely make much sense even in a weird way. Like rarely is there some grievance that pushes some fragile soul too far, most of the time it is just some anti-social asshole doing something fucked up.

The school shootings make perfect perverse sense to me.  Someone had a hard time in school and wants revenge.

The Vegas shooting was a head scratcher.  Pissed at people having fun?

Sure when it is a student like Columbine.

But more often they seem to just be carried out by randos.

Sandy Hook was an ex student I think.

Could be that the Vegas shooter wanted to go for the record, so he picked the location, target, and equipment with that in mind.  He probably didn't really care about them having fun as much as he cared that no one there would have the means to shoot back or get out of the firing line quickly, and that there were a lot of them there.

I think more broadly it's lashing out a world they think has done them wrong.

A people at NRA conventions typically armed? How easy a target would an NRA convention be for a mass shooter?
