I cannot imagine he wasn't on duty though. He is a pretty gung ho cop who loves working at the capitol. He is my cousin's son so he is like 25 so young enough they he would be a first line type guy.

I think there is a question whether National Guard was actually needed. A few thousand of the most ridiculous losers in the country--who were apparently mostly unarmed--apparently walked into the capitol building without a shot fired to stop them. The officer who was killed apparently was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher that was in the building.

Except there were also professional soldiers with weapons and zip ties there, hunting the VP and members of congress. It wasn't all just MAGA Pepe incels.

You don't want shots fired to protect a building.  But a bunch of National Guard troopers would have been more likely to help keep this mess out of the capitol building in the first place.

I wonder if any foreign agents were among the crowd as well? If I represented a potentially hostile power and was somewhat clued into developments in the Q-Anon/ Alt-right/ Hard Trumpist sphere and had some operatives around, I'd consider sending them in to see what I could grab/ what I could plant.

I pretty much said that as it was happening. I'm certain there were Russian and Chinese agents around grabbing whatever they could. Heck, I saw a video where someone seems to be yelling in Russian as the rioters are breaking a window.
